I saw that, it made me laugh. That 21 Peace dollar with all the scratches wow, but I'm sure they will sell.

it comes with 2, count em TWO, informational booklets, That's gotta be worth at least $100 right there! Information ain't cheap! and a presentation case? I mean, how else do you present them, you NEED a presentation case of course!

"sealed in individual archival capsules" That's nice right there, spared no expense, only the best of the best of the best sir!

These types of promoted sales gives the average coin collector a bad name. In addition to these folks my Facebook feed has been flooded with fake 1794 Flowing Hair dollars, fake $2 1/2 dollar gold pieces, "complete" Morgan and Peace dollar sets and all sorts of other bogus junk coming from China.

There are those that will buy into it just because of the hype. It's all about the promotion and presentation.
It's not really their fault - they're not really 'collectors'.
It's more of a souvenir thing...

  17. Caveat emptor. Buyer beware. A sucker is born every minute. If you shell out that money for those coins you're obviously not very adept at coin purchasing.

I saw the add for those "sets" last night. At first I thought it must be a mistake that they were marketing a 1921 Peace dollar as part of the set that was just junk. The 1921 Morgan isn't much better. I could buy a nice mint state 1921 Morgan for less than $40.00 and a somewhat ok 1921 Peace dollar for less than $100.00 that didn't have someone take a nail to the obverse. If they are showing those in their add I'm sure that every coin they are including in these sets are problem coins taken from a dealers junk box.

Thinly veiled attempt to attract uninformed people who may have heard about the 100th anniversary coins the mint will be releasing later this year.

Well, it's only a rip-off for those who buy it...I mean, as the saying goes, "it doesn't hurt to ask"...right...? I've seen and there exists every day on eBay and other sites...short of fraudulent tactics, of course...much worse, if above board, attempts to "ask" for (sell at) ridiculous prices, etc. "You gotta know the territory" someone once said.
