    Can anybody explain what happened to this coin how it got damaged, and was it released by the mint damage, I'm a newbie it pretty beat up, Thanks Greg

    There is no way to say how it got damaged, but it certainly didn't happen at the mint. Just extremely beat up.

    Could be road rash. Could be parking lot. Can't be Mint.

    Physical damage . Looks like it spent time in a shopping Mall parking lot .

    That right there is all road rash. Probably run over a few times and or dragged.

    heyEpperson2359 welcome to CT. yea whatever happened, it hit hard, fast and repetitive. busy parking lot, busy road/interstate. 100% sure that this damage didn't happen at the mint before circulation. good luck man

    A while back, I heard a clack..clack on my car. I thought I had run over a nail. Believe it or not, a quarter had gone into my tire sideways. Luckily, I did not have to replace the tire. The service station I go to had to take the tire off the car and use a locking pliers to get it out and he was able to patch it. The coin had almost half of it "sanded" off. I wish I had kept it, but that was over 20 years ago.
