Well, it seems since I've started into this less than a month ago, I can't get enough information from books and such. I devour a book a week (which is good for me) and I am continually on the lookout for trustworthy sources of information. I'd like to know the opinions of those of you more experienced than I on books, periodicals, et al you would recommend to a noob such as myself. I have read "Coin Collecting 101," "Everything Coin Collecting," and have a recent copy of CoinValue magazine (as recommended by a dealer I talked to). On a related subject, I would also like recommendations for computer software for someone like me, who collects U.S. coins, world coins, and some exonumary and currency (both foreign and domestic). Is there such an animal out there? Is the Carlisle software good? Well, that's my question for now. You all will probably get sick of answering my queries, but I can't learn if I don't ask. Yeah. That was actually my FIRST purchase book-wise. I also have a library book 2006 version of the World Coin book. (I'm working on affording getting my own updated copies.)

Well you can check coin elite - I know it does world coins and use coins. I am not sure about currency.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM. I suggest as already mentioned stay on this web site. There are tons of books out there on coins. Many appear to be someone's copy of other people's books, pamphlets, magazine articles. They become very repiticious and boring. You may want to do what I've been doing for many years. Sort of make your own coin book. By this I mean you could make a book or books based on what you want to have in it for your reference and not a pile of stuff you are not interested in. It's really easy. You acquire some 3 ringed binders and just print out posts from right here or other coin web sites. Eventually your'll need an index since there is really a lot of info right here. I'm up to several books like this now and all info I want, not a pile of stuff people put into some books to take up space so they can charge you more. As to computer software. Just use Excel. Some have used those many programs for coins out there but most just use Excel. One reason is the piles of info on that program available everywhere. Then of course there is the versatility with Excel. Remember almost everywhere on Earth today is Excel so if you down load your coin info onto a flash drive and your in China there is a great chance you can simply insert your flash drive in a computer ane read whatever you want.:smile (only if your info is in Chinese of course) So what kind of coins are you interested in?

Do a Google search for "Numismatist's Notebook". I use it, like it, and it's inexpensive. . Excell is OK but I like to associate photos with the coin description and this software makes it very easy to do.
