Just picked this one up today. The scans didn't quite show the true color of the coin, so the contrast has been adjusted a bit. I'd appreciate any opinions on the grade. :)

I think it's a Fine. Very nice looking, original coin with great patina- nice purchase!

I was thinking in the VG-10 to F-12 area. Thanks. :)

I would agree with VG, for some strange inexplicable reason I find the reverse sides of bust halfs to often be in better shape than the obverse.
I would love to post some of my bust halves, Okeh, got a digital camera, got access to the internet, then what?

For my photos, I just crop them with the free "Paintsho PRo" that came with the pc. then I save them in my coins file. Next I open my photobucket acount, and upload them. I set the upload parameter to size them at about 800. To post them here, just check the box under the photo, go to the bottom of the page and click "generate html & IMG code" and on the next page, click "IMG images for message boards," which copies them. Then, in the reply box here, you just click ctrl + v and they are pasted into the reply. Voila!

I think the obverse is F and the reverse VF. Nice coin.

It looks like a VF to me and I don't understand why others have graded it so low.

The ANA Grading Standards indicate "More than half of the details still show in the hair." I didn't think this coin met that standard so I dropped it to F.

But I was also about to post that if Bonedigger was still here, I'll bet he would have given it a VF. :)

For anyone who thinks it's only VG, or anywhere close to that low of a grade, here's a VG:[IMG]

I hope your right! Personally, I would grade the coin F-12, I think there's just to much wear overall to recieve a higher grade. Look at the obverse where the hair meets the cap, there's very little detail remaining. JMO, and obviously I'm not 100% confident with my ability to grade, if I was I would not of started this thread. LOL

Well I think it F-15 and maybe VF20. I think the obverse wear makes it F-15, but a tpg might very well grade it VF20. Nice coin by the way - O-102 I think.

I thought a Fine grade appropriate, mainly because the cap is very worn, the lock of hair on the neck blends into the neck, and the drapery around the bustline is very worn. The locks of hair in general looked very flat to me. The reverse I think grades a little better, but imo is overall a Fine. I suspect those who graded VG may have been paying a lot of attention to the rims, but on these collarless strikes the rim definition is less important. Just mho, I haven't been collecting very long and am more of a type set guy, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Well as I said "I think". :) I recommend the Parsley book - if nothing else it is fun to attribute busties that others post.

The coin will grade VF all day long. Mark is correct in his O-102 attribution. Its and R2 Coin. I don't see any distractions on the coin. Nice Pickup.

Because many around here subscribe to grading standards different from those used by the TPGs.
