According to Krause, $15 for XF. But it appears that this coins may have been cleaned at some point. If it has than you can probably half that. But it may just be my eyes, they aren't what they used to be.

How can you tell the difference between a coin in extra fine condition and a coin that may have been cleaned?

Im new to this but I think you can tell by looking for the cartwheel effect...absence of it probably means it was cleaned..

I am not an eggspert on these, but they are common and not worth more that ta few bucks in that condition. Now if it were an Australian 1930 penny, it would be worth megabuck$.

I agree. Krause can say whatever it wants but if you put this on eBay with a 99 cent starting bid you'd be lucky to get one bid. I just don't think these coins are rare.

Nobody is calling it rare, with a mintage of over 29 million it is not. But I think you are confusing demand and value. Here in the states the lack of demand for this coin will make difficult to sell the coin for its full value. But it is probably theoretically worth $15.00 to a person who wants a 1930 in that condition.

Yes, but doesn't demand create value? If you put a $15 price tag on it and no one buys it, it's not really worth that. It is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I found this out when I was buying some Mexican and French coins from my dealer's value bin that Krause said were worth a premium, and I hoped to sell them and make a profit. Well, I looked on eBay and found lots of people listing them and not getting any bids. So until demand picks up, they're not really worth anything.

That is why I used the word "theoretically", I imagine here in the states they are not worth the book value due to the aforementioned lack of demand, but maybe in Britian they might be fetching closer to what the good book says?
