I've got 4 days in Vegas and I was thinking of stopping in some pawn shops to see what they had. But then I thought those guys may be so used to handling coins that there won't be any bargains. Except a possible cherrypick. Opinions?
Well - out of all the times I have been I have not stopped in one. Not sure if they are different than the local one I visited once - but the few coins he had were way over priced. Then again it never hurts to shop around.
Kanga, I remember one on Fremont St (I think) in "old Vegas". Under the canopy. If you haven't been (to Fremont St) might be worth the visit. I was not a collector back then so I can't remember seeing any coins. But like I said, wouldn't have noticed. I recently searched for articles on pawn shops since I am going back in Oct. No coins mentioned, but from what I can gather, consensus seems to think that anything of "value" is sold on the internet. There are others, but don't know exact locations. Good luck! Dave
I'd use the 3 foot rule...stay at least 3 feet away from all gambling tables and devices, and you will have a WHOLE bunch of ca$h left over to buy nice coins or bullion with.
Vegas/Reno/Atlantic City pawn shops get most of their merchandise from losing gamblers, so it's not likely to include collectible coins. After all, what coin collector is going to take his collection along on a gambling trip?
