i have an american quarter and dime that both have an upside down back. is this a printing error? are they worth anything?
Tori, First off, wlecome to Coin Talk! Second, yes if in fact they have 180 degree rotated Reverses, then they are worth a fair premium! Of course, the value is dependent upon the condition of the coins and the Date and Mint also will have some bearing on their' values. Also, the best palce to ascertain the values, would be to check closed (ended) auctions on eBay of similar errored coins! It would be great if you could post some pictures of the front (Obverse) and back (Reverse) of the coins in a 2x2 holder, so that we can possibly assess their condition (grade) and tell if they in fact have 180 degree rotated Reverses. When you say that they both have upside down backs, with the front (Obverse) rightside up, are you are rotating the coins from East to West of from North to South when you turn them over? I ask because when a normal coin has the front (Obverse) rightside up and the coin is rotated East to West when you turn them over, then the back (Reverse) will be upside down. While, if the coin is rotated North to South when you turn it over, then the back (Reverse) should be rightside up. If is not, then the back (reverse) is rotated to some degree. I hope that this helps you in determining whether the coins have rotated Reverses or normal Reverses and hasn't confused you! Frank
i think he is foreign and doesn't realize that all modern usa coins have a 180 degree rotated back...not his fault though
