well thats you, and i'm confident your professional and trustworthy. The possibility does exist for say someone underage selling moms or dads coins without knowledge or permission. So, it's something to consider. Just looking at all the pros & cons. No pun implied.
If so, every single one of you does so in direct violation of ebay policy. You better hope they don't find out.
I think we can pretty well deal on our own , know how to pay , what to buy , I mean it has to be better than fleabay , and people from here deal with ebay every day , I'd much rather deal with peeps from CoinTalk anyday . rzage
Tmoney, please don't take that personal, it's just the legal implications and ramifications that need to be considered.
Laws & age are connected. Not his fault since not yet "age of majority". And I respect his ability/dedication/effort. But~ have no choice about T$'s ability to enter into a legal contract. encil:
But what I commneted on what this by LostDutchman - In which, unless I misunderstood entirely, he was suggesting that we have a completely different section specifically for the discussion of auction/ad items. Now what you are suggesting coinamn I also consider to be a bad idea, for the very same reasons I mentioned previously. Now perhaps you have not bene around here long enough, but there have been numerous occasions where an item on ebay was being discussed - and then the seller of that item became involved here on Coin Talk. Let it suffice to say that it got ugly - very quickly. Do you, or anyone else, honestly think that similar outcomes could be avoided ? I certainly don't. Which of course does present another can of worms altogether. Why ? Because no one under the age of 18 can enter into a contract (thus the ebay policy). And pretty much any sale or trade constitutes a contract.
Oh, and for the record, before I get accused of being against this idea because of my comments here on this thread. Peter asked me my thoughts about this idea many months ago. I approved of it.
I hear you there. A jolt to my memory does recall the situation you described. It's really disappointing though, that situations as you described did exist here in the open forum. Such differences should be communicated in private between a seller and buyer, to agree to disagree. Exception being a member who willfully engages in bad check writing, as my recent unfortunate situation presented itself. So goes my suggestion of at the very least a strong warning about potential financial mishaps in the check department.
I hear that too GD. There is much to consider. I hope something can be done to accommodate those that desire this addition to CT. Right now we need to continue to hear from members who have not spoken out on this as yet. Please bring your CT friends to this post, and tell us what you think.
I have yet to answer the poll and have not read all the responses. Still I will put this possibility forward. I can see one problem that could indeed become a fairly large one if CT were to start an auction format. As we know there are largely varying degrees of experience and knowledge on this site. This is a major reason many newbies join. To learn. One can never stop learning. I do so all the time. We share opinions and even "bicker" a bit here and there. That's fine. As much as I detest ebay my fear would be an influx of people who really have no desire to be here other than sell. I would also fear that they would try selling the same garbage we see on ebay and taking advantage of the newbies. How many times have a bunch us of "email bombed" a crooked seller on ebay then have them join CT to "defend" themselves? It has happened and usually they end up being booted off or just leaving. Would we want those same people joining CT, posting the required number of posts then going to nothing but auctions and targeting a new audience of newbies? I'd sure hate to see it. I haven't been selling much as of late myself. I still use CoinBug but believe me the first time I saw an SGS slab on there I about had a grabber. Having auctions could "dilute the honesty factor" we share here. Just my opinions of course. I'm "typing out loud". clembo
Yep Doug, you are right, and people can report me to ebay if they'd like, my mom and dad are aware of everything, and they know it is against ebay policy as well, and they would stick up for me. They see everything that goes down, and it is like they make the purchases/sales themselves, so I have nothing to fear, nothing to hide. In other words, my parents make all the purchases and sales for me, if you want to look at it like that
Doug I will ask you, if this were to happen, this whole auction part of cointalk, would I and the other YN's be allowed to buy/sell on here? Or would that be between us and the seller.
I never have understood this point of reasoning, and maybe you can help me. How can you say that you, or anyone, have a good reputation and then also let it be know that you are doing it against the rules....or shall I even use the word.....illegally? Speedy
Look at my feedback. I have a great reputation on ebay, I pay Exactly when I when the item, I ship normally next day, and communicate with the seller all the way. 100%, and everything is 4.9 stars, because you cannot please everybody, I even send extra coins sometimes, and I will still get 4 stars on something, but that is the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Speedy, do you have a problem with me selling and buying on ebay? It might be against ebay policy, but I am better than most sellers/buyers on ebay, and I can say that with confidence, and not a single person has ever thought I was a a teen. Think what you want speedy, but it is not like I am the only teenager doing it, this is one of the best way to buy/sell coins, and I, and other teens are sticking to it.
You are tough, very knowledgeable, and a very good administrator for this site. I respect every single one of your opinions, and they way you right, and I hope to some day be as knowledgeable as you. You are doing a great job Doug, and I appreciate you:thumb:
I think there is no reason to create a problem during our discussion stages. If there is any possible legal concerns that is for Ebay to be concerned with in their auctions and registered members. For us, Peter will appropriately address the minimum age requirement for participation in auctions. Perhaps some documentation can be provided to permit our YN's to participate within a set bidding maximum. As far as a YN CT member participating as a Seller, may open a Pandora's Box .
But you see, I am a great seller, and nobody can say otherwise. It is not like I'm some lazy teenager, sitting on the couch, watching TV all day, and then remembering I have to ship something. I can see how Peter would look bad, and possibly get in trouble if another YN sold an item and didn't ship, and took the money and ran. I don't want to do a thing that gets Peter in trouble, but just know, that the YN's here are very professional in what we do, and we try very hard. If there are no legal problems in any of this, for Peter, than I see no reason why a straight A, very ill, teen, just trying to enjoy his hobby, and sell some coins to get more coins to fuel the fire for passion, cannot sell here.
The more I think about it, the more I agree with you Doug. I am interested to hear what might be a potential plan of action to deal with any counterfeit/altered coins that might happen to show up? Or coins with questionable authenticity.
