Some of you may have seen this on eBay already:

Cheerios Sac Dollar Link on eBay

This is outrageous. These people have more money than brains. How can a variety on such a modern coin be worth so much? (a sarcastic rhetorical question)

Could there possibly be a mad rush to find boxes of Cheerios from 1999?

Man wish I bought one of those back then, just didn't know there was a noticable differance on the coin. Funny though the picture doesn't show the reverse that shows the difference oh well.

Luckily, I stocked up on Cheerios in preparation for Y2K civil chaos. I think I have about a 100 boxes that I bought in 1999 to make sure I’d have enough to eat for breakfast throughout the year 2000.

Just a minute, I’ll go check.

Nope, they’re boxes of Krispy Kremes. Never mind.

Ya know, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if a lot of people did that and don't even know what they've got. I'd bet there are some basements with golden dollars in them...

This is about the dumbest thing I ever saw. Maybe there is a lesson here for everyone contemplating paying a large premium for a small variation. Will it stand the test of time?

Which is more asinine? The fact someone bid $3650? Or that the seller set a reserve higher than $3650?

I wonder what this modern junk will be worth after we're a few years into the
presidential coin series. Just because a new generation of collectors is com-
ing on board is hardly a garauntee that demand will increase or that prices of
common coins like these will rise. There are at least 3,000 or so of these in
uncirculated condition and another 2,500 kicking around in circulation which can
all be had for face value. Why would anyone pay good money for these when
they can get one nearly as nice for a dollar? All those prototype reverse coins
in circulation will hold the price of this down for decades. It's registry hype
driving all these junk markets. Some day these people will wake up and realize
that if they wanted a collection of clad coins they should have just gone ahead
and bought old silver like everyone else. There's a lot to be said for classics.
That's how they came to be called classics. Of course just calling them classics
assures their place in the universe for all time and little things like supply, demand
and demographics no longer affect them.

Seriously though, the price is a little higher than I'd expect, but I'm not going
    to second guess the market.

as history has proven in the past coins with far less coins in circuilation are worth far more than what the reserve is on this coin. there are only 5500 of these coins produced and who knows how many of them uncircuilated. i belive if my facts are correct the next fewest minted coin was for 75000 and they sell for 15000 - - now dont quote me on that i am looking as we speak for the information on that and the particular coin is was.

luckybox, we made our own speculations here without any insult meant to you, at least I did. I admit, I'm amazed at the amount this is bringing in your auction, which is directed more at the bidders I think. But, I notice that you're new to this forum so I'm curious how you expected us to contact you (except through eBay) before posting our opinions.

However, having said all that, you obviously must have expected such bidding since you still have a reserve holding with the bidding just under $4000. I hope this doesn't violate decorum with you but I'm curious just what you're expecting from this? I don't plan on bidding on it and not just because I can't afford it, I just don't think it's worth NEAR that much, but obviously someone does.

Anyway, I do want to welcome you to the forum and I am genuinely curious about this coin and its history so any light you can shed on it would be appreciated.

Please don't take any of our poking and prodding personally. It's just opinions from us that don't see that coin being worth that much...and like I said, there are those that feel it is worth what you're getting. So, if you can get it - more power to ya' ;)

i have been in direct contact with pat briddick about this coin and he advised me not to accept anything under what my reserve is for this coin. Pat briddick was the person who discovered the flaw in the coin

luckybox23, welcome! Best of luck with your sale. I always figured it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I saw one go for $1800 about two weeks ago. I also see many buyers offering $600 or more in any uncirculated condition.

I had to call my mother-in-law. She's a hoarder of "odd" stuff. She has closets filled with Easy Bake Oven mixes, old candy bars, and other food products that had "give-aways". Somehow she missed the Cheerios.

    Again... welcome!

and your right something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it

Did you ask everybody’s “direct information” on that, or are you just “misspeculating” ?

well im not misspeculating - - it is just very interesting that since i joined this forums and others that the number of people watching my item has greatly increased. so i wouldnt say it is a misspeculation at all -

I was referring to your comment that we must all be pretty interested in the outcome.

And my point is that people form opinions all the time without going to the source.
