    Hello,

I have had this 1973 D Penny when I found it around 1975 in change I had. It was long forgotten in a box of other random coins I have until I came across it again the other day. I am not an avid coin collector and have never had this looked at by anyone with knowledge of rarity or who can place value on it. Any help would be very much appreciated!

    Best,

    Todd

That's glue or a sticky substance.

@Todd Fettig - I think it is glue, too! Try using some acetone to see if you can remove it.

I agree with you. I see feathered edges. This was done, IMO, purposefully.

Likely glue. It would be a waste of good acetone to remove it...try water first.

Its copper. It's been like that for the 45 years I've had it. If it's only worth a penny monetarily speaking, it is a least an interesting keepsake to me. I was looking for an honest opinion, not a snobbish insult!

There are coins where you get a die clash and you can get an impression of the memorial on Lincoln. There are good photos here of that, try the search box. But this is not what happened here.
Someone created this as mentioned. No one is being snobby.

Well, Todd, you received some very truthful answers from some very knowledgeable members. More so than myself
How you proceed is up to you

You got honest answers. It's glue or something stuck to the coin.

No snobs...been around a while...seen a lot of stuff and a lot of material presented which is not always responded to the way a new member might wish...don't take it personally...you can learn a lot here...

It is clearly an imprint of the memorial. Glue is not the color of copper. The waste of acetone comment was unnecessary. I am not trying to sell it. I was wondering what caused it. Truly I found it aound 1975. I dont think glue would stick that long?? No more comments are necessary. I got what I was searching for. Best to you all.

If you have acetone, go for it. I buy it for $6 a pint. The hardware store doesn’t give it away. Your US cent is worth 1 cent. Simple math

Thanks. Your opinion is so very helpful to me. I will head to the hardware store right now!

    Incorrect again..
It's an imprint on dried adhesive.

Clear adhesive will show the color of Copper underneath.. Sorry but that is not a mint error of any kind.

Obverse PMD in my opinion. There is a small cud on the reverse below the N in cent. Not enough to raise the value much, if at all. Better luck ahead, welcome to CT.
