Hey, all you experts out there. How about a thread to let us finacially challenged people pick your brains on cameras that take great pictures (and close-ups) of coins. :secret: I don't mind selling some plasma to buy one, but I hate to sell a kidney. How about it guys, cameras on the cheap and what features to look for. Thanks
I was going to recommend the canon 590IS or 1000IS....UNTIL I noticed the Amazon price has gone from $99 to $249. Has the dollar sunk that far to the yen ???? I have no answer now, sorry
$99 to $249? I guess the sale was off.....bummer. I'm searching for a decent digital camera too. Scopin' out walmart yesterday but I don't think that's the best place to pick something up. Especially if you're not quite sure what it is you want to buy. Don't get me wrong, I do know photography. It's just that I've dealt with the film media for so many years that the digital aspect appears to be quite foreign to me. Nikon and Minolta used to be the big names in 35mm photography. Cannon too. So what do we chose for the new and improved way of conveying our artistic expressions in the digital age? :smile
What's your cheap price range? It's pretty important to set up what you can spend in order to narrow the choices. Obviously for shooting coins and currency you want to have a bit of control with macro (close up) functions and an ability to manually adjust settings. You also need something with a tripod or camera stand mount. The ability to turn off the flash or to wire a separate flash off the camera is a good option too. Look at Digital Photography Review and look for online merchants that allow you to compare models for features and cost you are looking for. You can select search and compare from BH or Adorama or many other online retailers.
You can get a Pentax OptioS12 12megapixel with macro, super macro and video for about $100 from HSN. I love the one I got.
They have a cashback program and if you use a cc that gives you cashback as well, there are some deals to be had. Just have to be careful.
Check out Radio Shack, they are always having sells on cameras. About a year ago I pick up a Samsung S1050 for under $110.00. The pictures are not too bad for someone that does not know how to use it.. I'm getting better with practice.hya:
This is the one I use. Should run you $150-200. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/F2650/F265A.HTM
I have 5 digital cameras. None costs more than #100. One of my favorites is the Samsung L73 for $25. Largest and most expensive is the Fuji S7000 Which did cost $100. I still use my Sony Mavicas once in a while but sure are big compared to modern cameras. The Canon S410 is fun since it makes animal sounds when you turn it on and it cost $45. Also a thing called DXG for $25. Be carefull of camera that require thier special batteries. Those are expensive to replace. My Sony's and the Samsung are like that. Sort of depends on where you live if there are any camera shows in the area. Try looking up camera shows in google. Also, if you frequent flea markets and get to know sellers there, sometimes you can place orders. So far I've had nothing but great luck at both places with cameras. And all brand new in the original boxes.
