I got this in a group lot late last year, the group was a partially identified group of mid to later Byzantine coins. This coin is at its widest 17mm and 1.2gm. The collector had notes that it was perhaps John VIII th I am not sure of that.

The collection was older, one coin had a Berk/England tag from Dec 1989. In most cases he seemed to be spot on with the coins he attributed, however I am not seeing it with this one.

More eyes are always helpful. Thank You.

My guess at this time is Manuel II LBC 1010.

I'm not familiar enough with these coins to have an opinion, but if it is indeed LBC 1010 Manuel II, apparently this same coin is listed as John V in PCPC 331.2, SB 2515, DOC p. 212 and as John VII in LPC p. 170.3. (taken from descriptions of similar coins)

No idea what the latest consensus opinion is as to which of these emperor attributions is correct (if there is a consensus).

I have seen auction houses seemingly stick with John V if that counts for much
