I will present a talk on cast bronze in an ANA webinar Monday 2/22. Please forward to any who might be interested. Cast Bronze Money from the Roman Republic and Central Italy Rome was founded in 753 BC and started producing coins in about 300 BC. Cast bronze in several forms was used for money in Republican Rome and Central Italy before coins were struck from gold, silver, or bronze. This talk will cover some reasons for the use of money. Cast bronze in several forms will be shown: irregularly formed aes rude, cast bars and other shapes, and finally cast bronze coins. Some of the important books on the subject will be discussed and shown. Instructor: rrdenarius When: February 22, 2021 | 11-12:00 PM MST ANA eLearning Academy | Numismatic Webinars (money.org)
This sounds fascinating. Will it be available for streaming or downloading after the presentation? I have to be at work at that time.

Fascinating, absolutely love bronze money and coinage. And thanking my lucky stars I am not in Texas freezing my bum off without power, but sitting in a warm living room whilst it is just as cold here in the NE coast as it is in Texas.
I forgot to add the ANA boilerplate. We have been out our comfort zone in Houston. Like a few million other Texas homes we were without power for 24+ hours. I am grateful for things I did not know I'd miss until they weren't there.... like hot coffee. To tell you how bad it is here, Ed Stevens cancelled his coin show in west Houston this weekend when dealers said they would not drive on ice to come to the show!
I hope that your power is restored quickly. It must be unbelievably difficult to cope in a situation of subfreezing temperatures and no means to speak of to stay warm, or to have drinkable water. I do have one question regarding the webinar. Will focus strictly on bronze coinage? I understand that silver was also cast, in the form of bars, well into imperial times. Thanks
it will be about cast bronze, I have one cast silver piece and it may be in the pics. I will talk about what a Roman soldier might have made in a week fighting at Veii. The pic above is 1.5 asses = half a day's pay.
