Buying Christmas gifts at Amazon this season? Use this affiliate link and Amazon gives Coin Talk a commission on the sale.

    Many Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I think coin talk should have an online store where they buy and sell coins.
You'll make money and your site will become more popular.

I second this idea. There are even programs to build your own unique Auction site like eBay.

A coin auction site that would charge a fair and equitable commission might not be a bad idea. Certainly there would be the problem with some bad apples, but this site would likely weed them out pretty quick !!!

A lot of us amateurs are limited where we can buy, swap, etc. And we do use eBay. I would rather deal with the guys I know. I mean a few trades don't get completed, but those guys go away very quickly.

A coint talk auction just might work.

I agree with 10gary. On one of the MBs where I'm a mod we have a trader/seller section. It is heavily modded and those who are given the task weed out the bad apples very quickly. We've learned that those with higher post count and the ones who are active members tend to be the most trustworthy people. They have been there and have a history. Those who come onto the MB and offer up rare figures and have 10 posts and are a newbie are questioned. It's always buyer beware and ultimately its the buyer who has to take the risk or not. The website is not held responsible for poor judgments.

As said previously I am new to the coin collecting game. I would like to go to other places besides ebay for my coins. I did have one person I went to and they no longer answer emails and it appears they no longer sell.

Of course the bottom line is that the owners of this site must feel comfortable with such decisions.

Well, we already have the classifieds. That's similar to what you're describing. Gary wants a CT auction site, which would be pretty hard to implement and code, I imagine. But I'd probably use it, if it existed. There'd just be a lot of seller/buyer protection issues, and it'd probably still need to use paypal, so there'd be fees there. It'd be hard for CT to address problems with transactions I bet.

And that amazon link? That thing still work?

Btw, Amazon is a great place to sell coin books that you no longer need. All you need is the ISBN to list the exact edition.

You'd be surprised how much some people are willing to spend on books you've already learned everything in (or have newer versions of).

I would like CT to have not only the auction but also the firm price coin sale. Due to my location, I have little choice, I must do my shopping on-line. So I am always looking for cost effective options. Something along the lines of Buy - Sell - Trade and maybe a Want to Buy link?!
