....but it's probably not the one you were thinking of. This is a Golden Eagle (or Berkut) on a 10 Som coin from Kyrgyzstan. The mintage is 3,000 and it was made by the Kazakhstan Mint. The series is known as "Wildlife in the EurAsEC countries" and the colorful logo below the eagle is that of the Eurasian Economic Community (which no longer exists, although there is a successor...see link below for more info). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_Economic_Community
@ddddd, you inspired me. I pulled the trigger on this 2005 Bubo Owl Mongolia 500 TogRog from the same Endangered Wildlife Series Eurasia, last night. It is in original mint packaging. Mintage is 5,000.
I know. Idiot me realized (after the fact) that the coin was not Russian after re-reading the initial post. It was the 'Cyrillic' characters that threw me off.......
Very nice coin. I wouldn't mind having one in my collection. This is my newest Eagle and for me it's not something I normally collect.
World coins, especially the moderns are so much more attractive than anything the US Mints have put out in 100 years. Sad commentary on US coinage. I am buying far more World coins than US coins recently.
