Anybody ever scroll through pinterest at coins and accidentally click on an image for an etsy listing of a super rare mint error coin that these idjits seem to have more error coins that they know what to do with. Has anybody clicked the contact seller button and asked these buffoons if they know anything about coins at all? A sucker is born every minute, when i see those ads i think I'm staring directly at one. What morons.
I do apologize, i just wanted to know if I'm alone on this one or not.

Unfortunately, they know enough to post extremely damaged etc. coins with a description to sucker in those with no knowledge at all.

The sellers know about coins. The buyers know nothing about coins. And, that is the strategy.

Lol! Etsy is arguably the worst place to buy any coin. It's also pretty funny to me because Etsy claims to be a special place for stuff that people essentially hand craft. Their claim is "Etsy is an American e-commerce website focused on handmade or vintage items and craft supplies". The word 'vintage' seems to allow sellers to entirely break Etsy's own rules at will lol!

The influx of better and better counterfeits is also very real and Alibaba has quite frankly helped quite a bit with the easier distribution of fakes in general...because in reality, that's part of what a communist government is just fine with.

It's why self education is so important when dealing with any type of rarities...Art, paintings, coins, ancient items...Someone will always be trying to make a buck off someone who's willing to take a risk without learning things first. That has never changed in the history of humans and money!

Nope.. There have been plenty of mentions of the topic here on CoinTalk pertaining to Etsy.

Yup... Post mint damage, and fake.
It's funny to a point of ridiculous...what person whom has $50k to spend would even consider buying something for $50k with no research?! The answer is absolutely no one.
Likely they are hoping that someone makes an offer. I'm guessing if you offered $50 bucks they would take it lol!
The seller probably bought a bag of 100 fake off center coins from Alibaba or perhaps it's even actually a seller from Alibaba. We now know that some Alibaba servers are hosting entirely fake web sites claiming to sell authentic coins, they are all over the place in ads on Facebook!

...the lesson is always do some research...or post questions about items in a respected forum filled with various smart people and experts

I went exploring after reading about Etsy on CT (side note, my sister sells some stuff there she finds in storage locker auctions) anyway, I clicked on a coin with an outrageous price and story to locate the seller. They were located somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic.

I'm not on Etsey but am on Listia and the same sort of thing happens there. But it's not worth it to contact members as in my case I got into a long winded back and forth with one member who ended up telling the mods I was harassing him by calling him out. I was polite the whole time but he insisted what he had was a one of a kind rare mint error and nothing was going to change his mind. You can't fix stupid.

IF ANYONE deals with Etsy for anything, they deserve what they get. Do not purchase it on Etsy and then post it on CT and GTG PLEASE.
Do not but coins on ETSY.

$50K for a damaged quarter? I seriously doubt anyone buys any of this stuff for the prices they are asking.
