I love this forum. I did not post some things in my initial profile that I now feel are important to share. I am 49 and have been diagnosed with a terminal lung disease that gives me 5 years at best. I spent my whole life in coporate america making money for the owners of the companies i ran. Now I am disabled and have nothing to do all day but look at tv and search the web. Strictly by accident two years ago I got into the state quarter program and I was hooked. I have built a nice little collection of the last 50 year proof sets, a complete ike collection and now I am working on 50 years of mint sets. I am doing this for my children and grand children since i have nothing else to leave them. My 6 yr. old grand daughter lives in Indy and stays with us 1 week every summer. She loves my coins and each visit I send her home with a coin which she locks up and protects. This website has helped me gain years of experience in a few short weeks, plus everyday I have a lot of interesting reading. Thank You!!!
Wow, Biggie. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I wish you the best and hope that CoinTalk can continue to offer you the expertise and inspiration to continue to advance in this hobby.
Biggi, You have done things so far that most of us would not have been able to do. You have misfortune in your physical condition, but you have your mind. 5 Year plans often extend into much more and you will be able to do things that are now important to you. Glad to have you here! Jim
A belated welcome and keep on truckin' Biggi. I haven't done the quarter thing but am presently trying to build a collection for my 8 year old as well. When he's a little older, first thing I'll teach him about this forum is he'll need several grains of salt! (just kidding...sorta) This place does have a lot of good information and can be very entertaining as well. All the best to you Sir for a long time to come and God bless!
Never give up hope my friend, they gave my mother some 6 months to live and she passed away some 40 years later
Biggi you are a shining example for for me to follow. We are both in the same boat but with different oars. Mine are coronary heart disease and congestive heart failure as well as two or three other old age problems. I didn't expect to make it past 65 and that was six years ago. Keep posting, pics would be great because it sounds like you have a great collection of sets. Could you post some Ikes. Love em' but can't afford em'. By the way, welcome.
Maybe I'm wrong but don't believe those doctors that say it's all over. Fight that as long as you can. Try every doctor until you find one that will cure you. I've really had my fill of doctors that tell you it's the end. Hopefully your in an area where you can get a lot of attempts to do something from some great doctors and hospitals. None of my buisness but try the University of Chicago Hospitals or the Loyola Cancer building. Back in 2004 I was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer of the bladder, prostate, lymph nodes and all associated nerves. One of those idiot doctors just looked at my records and said Have you notified your next of kin? Others looked at my CT scans and said Sorry. After 4 operations and two bouts of Chemotherapy I'm not only still here but plan on going to at least 2 to 4 coin shows a month for the next 50 years. Slight exageration but maybe 25 more. But why those State Quarters? Just kidding but although I too save them, just not one of my favorites. Glad your to are here and hopefully you'll be on this forum for a long time.
Keep the faith there biggiej! My wife passed last year with a terminal cancer and the biggest inspiration she left me was never give up! She lived like she had many years to come and no end. I admired her for that. This hobby is never-ending which gives you more to look forward to. My thoughts and prayers are with you during your battle!
Wow, I think you guys are great....Hang in there Biggie. This forum is a safe harbor to weather any storm.
welcome to the forums, and let me say, Doctors are not all knowing. Keep coming back, we will look forward to seeing you. Regards, Tom
Hopefully in the next week or so my son will find time to put me through digital camera 101. he has one and tells me I can take pictures and put them on the web. Once he has shone me I will definately post some pics. Thanks for all the support and I really enjoy spending my nightime hours reading all of the great things on this site. I feel like I have learned more about my coins in the last couple weeks here than I have in all my days of collecting. thanks again:thumb:
Welcome biggiej! Sorry to hear of your dilemma. Just remember, doctors are human and as humans we don't have all the answers all of the time. You need to stay positive and move forward. Just a note: I am employed in the medical field (not a doctor) and I have had the pleasure of seeing several people live past their "alotted" time and continue on for many years. Keep collecting!
Keep the faith, advances in medical field happen at an alarming rate. Many people with terminal conditions have beaten the odds. My Dad was given 6 months with cancer, he fought it for almost 3 years. Spend time with your children and grand children and keep collecting. God Speed and God Bless
Welcome to CT! I'm sorry to hear about your condition, keep the faith. Another story, a dear friend of mines mother had breast cancer and was given 6 months to one year after all the treatments. She lived for 28 years more! It was truly an amazing story. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
