I was just curious about it and with the information i'll give you, i wondered if somone could tell me if it's a junk coin, i'ts not bad or if it's good. year: 1882 Made of: silver Weight: 10g Condition: good( you can read perfectly the text and the images are good condition, you can see all the detail of the hair, just 2 o 3 really little scratches(you have to look hard cos they are really small)) Any other info about it you need just ask me for it. -Leuquim_
Hi leuquim, and welcome to the forum, and to the greatest hobby on earth. Your coin is listed in the Standard Catalog of World Coins, 19th Century (commonly referred to as "Krause"), as KM#678. The silver is .835 fine, resulting in an ASW (actual silver weight) of .2685 troy ounces, which is worth about $1.92 in bullion value. There are two varieties with a total of 20,343,000 minted at Madrid, as indicated by the tiny six-pointed star. Some are simply dated 1882, others have an "overstrike" with the last digit "2" being struck over a "1". In lower grades the values are the same, but in the highest grades the overstrike is considerably more valuable. "Good" is a technical grade which is actually not very good at all. It's generally stated as "heavily worn, design visible but faint, flat details." What you are describing is at least three grades higher - "Very Fine", and possibly even higher. If you can post a picture of both sides, we may be able to give you more guidance. If it has its original luster, and has not been cleaned, it could even be Uncirculated. Krause values the coin as follows: 2/1 strike - Fine $4.50, Very Fine $7.50, Extra Fine $100, Uncirculated $350 Clear 2 strike - F $4.50, VF $7.50, EF. $40, Unc $100. BTW - The large date is the date the coin was authorized, and the date inside the star is the date it was minted. For this series the dates are the same, but in some cases the authorization date appears on Spanish coins for decades.
Ok, thank's srry for the " good condition " just that i don't kno really about coin language. I'll put a image tomorrow, if i can..., well i've got lost of question still about some coins, so i'll be looking forward to ask them. And just that when i said that it was "good condition" i said so because i've got loads of old coins that you can hardly see anything on thenm so..I supose in theese forums the condition of the coins are really high and you must all have some pretty goood coins so i hope i'll get imbarrased by talking about my coins...hehe. Oh and one thing, where can i buy this coin book? -Leuquim-
Krause consists of four volumes, the size of large city telephone books, covering individual centuries. They are available on the internet at Amazon, Alibris, and Barnes & Noble; as well as other on-line and brick & mortor booksellers, but they are rather pricey. Check your local library, which may have at least the 20/21st Century edition, before buying a set.
Wich is the best way that you can get an image of a coin? I tryed with the scanner but the coin shines and you just see a round shine, with the digital cam you only see the coin with no shine but no detail or blury. I just wanted to kno what ppl in this forum use, cos all the coin images are great, oops srry, very fine. -Leuquim-
I have a scanner and a digital camera. Both work fine. I'd just advise that you practice at it until you get better results.
Aha! i got the camera to work, just had to change a option. here is the coin. front: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y30/Leuquim/159-5969_IMG.jpg back: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y30/Leuquim/escut.jpg If you make the window smaller with the button next to minimize the photo get smaller 2 What type of quality is this coin in? just so i can lern a bit.
Oh, wow, thanks now i can gess what quality are my other coins more or less. I'm not sure that i'm going to sell it do... I think i'll whait untill 2060 to see if the price goes up XD.
As the page is about spanish coin i just wondered why a 189*( the last number isin't visible) alfonso XIII coin had the image of a woman. It's maby him, i doubt it... If anyome could tell me with those books i could solve the mistery.
Actually that's not a woman. Alfonso XIII was an infant when his father died, and became King with his mother the Archduchess Maria Cristina of Austria as Regent until 1902, so all 19th Century coins of his reign show him as an infant or young child.
Why does my alfonso XII coin got under his neck a big spot, little spot, big spot, litte spot in this order?
