I gave an impromptu talk at James Wiles "Modern Minting Errors" class at the Summer Seminar and was shocked at how few people read the Numismatist article or listened to the talk Chris and I gave two years ago. They were still under the impression that it was die damage!

So, now as the 5th anniversary of the find approaches, I think it is time to clear the air one and for all. The rarity (via certified populations) is now firmly established not to be in the 25,000 range (per variety) as was rumored early on. There are no bags or original rolls, and there never was. (all rolls were assembled). The cause is proven, beyond all reasonable doubt. (go ahead, try and debunk it!) They are listed in all pricing guides.

No, if only I could talk to that die maker who was laid off in 2006........

Right on. What a wonderful set of videos. I have about a dozen unsearched WI rolls that were gathered in AZ (but not Tucson), any chance?

Great videos, Rick. Pretty much conclusive info on these popular "error" quarters. Still, many people love these error coins and feel it was worth whatever they paid for them. OK, I'll admit it, I've got one of each.
Rick, How many do you own?

Outstanding video and presentation. I jumped on these early also, maybe a day or two after I first noted the topic on a coin forum and well before they made significant press... waaaay before listed in any price guides.... got 2 sets from someone in Az selling raw sets early, where each set had 3 lower and 1 upper. Sold a couple lowers and made a good deal of my original investment back,, did well I think.. Very happy,.... one of my few knock out winners from the 'bay...
    @$50per these would be steals...
I think this is our generations 3-legger....

I never bought into this coin. It isn't a real error IMO.

Yeah,, I've heard this from a few folks... but doesn't really matter that a few folks haven't took the pill,,, for every 1 that hasn't, 500 have,,, and that's what will drive it into mainstream, as well as redbook, etc...

Btw, imo it's even more impressive than a common "real error"... a vandelized die is unique in history as far as i know... and that's exactly what this appears to be....

... and don't forget the ol' 3-leggers... they ain't "real" errors either,, just overpolished dies.

.. these guys will do well,, have done well, and will continue to do well.

It is my understanding that the Superbird quarters were also "vandalized".

This was great -- really enjoyed it. Any chance you can do one on the 37-D three legged Buffalo?

It might be a good idea to do some counterfeit detection videos. Thanks for the idea.

I'd need a better narrator though.
