I have noticed a lot of posts on the Atlanta Craigslist for some what I think are obviously fake coins. Not that I can tell by the pics, but rather by the prices (But those don't exactly look like PCGS or NGC holders either...). http://atlanta.craigslist.org/clt/1273711511.html So this is the latest one I have seen - such a deal at $900... if they were real. Lets see, 3 "rare" morgan silver dollars... 1889 CC Morgan - AU53 - $5K+ 1895 O Morgan - AU55 - $2K+ 1895 - convinently not graded, but "every hair, star and letter are visible"... gee wonder why! But that don't look like a proof to me $15K+ minimum. $20K+ in coins for $900, i really hope noone falls for this - I have seen several posts like this lately, most have a phone number of some guy in FL i think with an 813#. You guys seeing these in your citys or just avoid CL all together?
I have only made one purchase from 'Craigs list' and was fortunate not to be ripped off. It was a Franklin Mint "original signers of the Declaration" set of mini coins that were sterling silver. They ended up being smaller than a penny, but it was legit. $50 which came out to be the exact value for the spot price of silver at the time. He was a retired sheriff. But I'm not willing to take my chances again.
I like Craigs List, but I don't look for coins. I just bought a 2007 Ford F-150 on Craigs List for $6,000 below book value. I also just sold my other truck last week through Craigs List.
