I had read on here that some members were receiving their new 2009 $2 notes from the BEP. Please let me know if I misread this. Also, If they have come out, are they being released yet to the local banks or into circulation? Thanks.
I think what you are referring too here is the 2009 "Subscription" notes from the BEP. They are actually series 2003A $2 notes where the serial number begins with 2009. Those are being made available for 10 fed districts. The first five (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Dallas) were released on June 1st. The remaining 5 (Richmond, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis and San Francisco) will be released on August 5th. As far as I know, there are n
I think it won't be until early 2010 that we'll be seeing Series 2009 anything; and it's not for sure any of those bills will be $2's. Since $2 bills aren't in high demand they skip a lot of series (most recent series of them is 2003A, which has been printed since 2006).
Rumor had it the John Snow $2 bills were not going to be printed, but they were and released. Doubt Henry Paulson signature will be seen, but I believe Timothy Geitner's will. Just a thought.
That may depend upon how long Geithner lasts. We know that the Fed didn't order any $2's this fiscal year, and that they don't plan to order any next year. So the earliest we could see more $2's being printed would be fiscal 2011, which begins October 2010. The size of the Series 2003A printing relative to the 1995 and 2003 printings suggests that they'll last even longer than that, though. If I had to guess a date for the next $2 production, I'd say probably 2012.... That'd still fall within the current presidential administration, so it's certainly possible that Geithner would be in office at the time--but the past few Secretaries haven't lasted that long.
