What happened to this dime?

    ???

    Slightly smaller in circumference, but look at the edge. I thought it was fake at first, but then thought, Why?

    Weird looking.....that edge is really strange....

    just damaged, some say dryer coins.

    I have found these metal detecting at the beach.

    look like it may have been heated buy something or sand blasted?

    Dipped in acid or some other corrosive liquid.

    Soaked in acid. notice on the edge how the clad layers extend out slightly beyond the copper core, yet the core still shows the reeded edge. Now in order to have gotten the reeds it would have had to have been out to the same distance as the clad layers at one time. The only thing that could have caused it to drop back like that after the striking would be some type of corrosive that attacked the copper to the greater extent than the coppernickel.

    IMO, I'll go with the acid. That was my first impression.
