Does anyone have a few tricky slabbed coins that we can guess the grades on? I'll try to post a few in the next couple of days also.

1833 Half Cent looks to be MS-63 BR. Would have gone higher if not for the large hit on Liberty's jaw line. What about the "scratch" across Liberty's face and below her ear? Is it a scratch or an adjustment mark?

I've not seen adjustment marks on copper...

Looks like luster breaks on the curls above the eye, above the B in LIBERTY, and several of the leaves. I call it the strongest AU58 I've seen in a while. Original Luster underneath the natural misty tone. Terrific coin.

I know I'll take some heat for not calling it MS...

Yeah, hard to say if that is wear or friction. Even if it is light circulation wear a lot of times these coins will end up in a slab graded MS-62 or higher.

And you're right - not likely an adjustment mark on copper. Probably a scratch now that I notice its companion in the field to the left of Liberty's nose.

It's a very light scratch that is very difficult to see in hand, but of course when photographed, the light always catches it just right!! ;) Any more guesses????

Any more tricky/tough coins to grade???

Not from me you won't ;) I agree 100%. Even if it could be said that the wear was due to cabinet friction those scratches should kill any chance at the coin being graded MS.

I see no wear on it. I will go 62 BN.

    I agree with GDJSMP
since the TPG service's were formed I seen some coins grade MS-60-63 that in hand you would say Au-58 at best.

    Technical Grade AU58 + Market Grade MS62BR = NGC Grade MS60 BR.

You guys are pretty good, I thought it would be tougher than that, but no one got it exactly right :) I bought it raw at an auction for AU money, it was advertised as an MS63RB though (not quite!). NGC said it's MS61BN:

    I'll guess AU55 on the 1857.

I would say AU53 on the 1857 and would have said AU58 on the original coin.
