I used to have my Washington quarter collection in a Dansco Album. Coins started to tone and I wasn't sure I wanted my blast white quarters to go to tone town. So I spent like $400+ dollars on all the Intercepts, Eagle pages, and this clam shell archival album. Now I am sure these coins won't tone, but this thing is a monstrosity. This thing is so huge. I realize I actually enjoyed the coins so much better in the Dansco album. Should I embrace the the toning and put back?? I spent so much money I probably will keep as is, but am curious about other's opinions.
Yikes, I wouldn't spend $400 and buy all that, just to prevent toning. I see all that money spent on storage, as money that could have been spent on coins or books. At this point, you already spent the money, so I don't see a point in going back. Perhaps, do another lower grade set in the Dansco if you still have the album. If you want to go all the way around to the other side of the fence, look for an old Wayte Raymond brand album. You'll likely have a nicely toned set, after a decade of storage.
Well I have almost the whole collection, except a handful of key dates: 32 D, 32 S, 34 D, 39 S, 37 S. Otherwise I have every single coin BU to MS 66 grades. The collection is worth a lot more than $400. Storage is worthy of the expense IMHO.
Storage is most important. One of those things you regret long after the fact. My only thought might be to break the collection in two parts thus allowing you to put them in two smaller albums. That would make looking at them a little easier and wouldn't send you back to the bank for another loan!
Since you've already made a significant investment, my suggestion is moot. BUT Why didn't you go with just the Washington quarter Intercept Shield album? That would have been a $40-50 investment and have had the same look as the Dansco album. Even with Intercept Shield suggesting their protection only lasts about 10 years, the long term investment would have been less. BTW, what you've done has a lot of appeal even if it's a bit bulky.
I really like how you have it, even if it does seem bulky. I like the fact that you can easily take a specific example out with ease. Where did you get those black cases for each coin? I really like that. I think I'm gonna move my Washington Quarters out of my Dansco now. lol.
