Found these two Kennedy half dollars roll searching (sorry for the bad pics, they are quite gold in color....I really need a halogen lamp). Why do people make them golden? Anyone know what is used to do this? Is it actual gold? Or just spray paint or something.

And, does it totally detract from any premium (not that these would ever have a premium, but just curious).

Your lamp is too warm and cancels out the golden quality. Maybe shoot under natural light, but not direct sunlight

That's better and I think you can read more of the coins natural character now. I have come across these as well and assumed it was cladding issues. Are you saying someone applied a patina of some kind? It's definitely not spray paint.

Yeah, it's probably spray paint. :goofer: I have some from the 70s that were electrocuted. I mean, electroplated.

The 2008 one had a sticker on the obverse that appeared to be of a political nature. Most of it was gone, so I pealed the rest off....

The 2008 appears to have taken on the tone that many nickels do.
The nickel alloy often takes on a golden color.
    I find it quite pleasing.

No....this is artificially put there somehow. It is golden in color...

:goof: Here is kind of a creepy golden Kennedy that showed up one day at the 7 o'clock position. Traci
