Hi to all Anyone can help me and identify this coin? It is similar to Parthian coins but I have not yet seen it in any references and auctions. Thank you in advance.
To the best of my knowledge it is silver ( Drachma ) , although the greek alphabet on the coin is not readable ( by me ) but i do not think it belongs to Barbaric tribes. One reason is that the coin newly dig out in Iran near the old famous city of Parthia”Raga”. ( The modern name of Raga city in Iran is “Rey city”.
Looks like an imitation of Sellwood type 19 or 20 (reverse legend is too blundered to guess which type was meant) of Artabanos I (old attribution) or Artabanos III (Assar) (c.126-122 BC). The poor style of the portrait, and unreadable "Greek" legend, clearly peg this as a barbarous or unofficial piece; this is not something that would have been made by an official Parthian mint of this period. Possibly a privately-issued coin (rather than official issue of a border state).
