DISCLAIMER: This is not to search out buyers. This is for my knowledge only to see different options of selling if I have to in the future. Please do not PM me with offers, as these coins are NOT for sale. I have somewhat fallen away from collecting as of late. I have sold off almost all o fmy bullion coins to local dealers usign the money to pay for car repairs and house payments after my exwife defaulted on a mortgage that was still in my name. I still like researching coins, I still love going to a dealer and pawing through their wares, but I can't really remember the last time I bought a coin specifically for my collection and not for investment/resale. That being said, IF I do liquidate my collection of albums, what would be the best way other than Ebay? There are 2 local dealers here I have sold to and never bought from. I have complete collections and near complete collections in Danscos. Can these be consigned to someplace like heritage, AANTV ( yes they are an odd outlet but they are effective), or another COIN auctioneer. The local auctioneers here sell coins, but are not really knowledgeable in numimatics. Your advice and insighte is greatly appreciated.
I think it would all depend on what you have. If you have high-end coins, I'd sell them on Heritage but the lower-end ones, would be better off being sold on Ebay. Hope that helps! :goofer: Ribbit
heritage auction would be based on the value of your coin or album ( not sure if they do albums) graded coins the sell the best at least thats what they told me at the FUN show
I'd say Ebay is the bet bet as far as auctions go to sell them. But, depending on how well you know your local coin dealer, you may have a better option. My local dealer will allow good customers to sell their coins in his shop and doesn't even charge for the service. This way you can have a set price and have it where it is visible to a lot of collectors. Guy~
A suggestion, depending on how well you know your local dealer and their ability to buy collections (and how well you trust their advice/offers), then you might seriously consider saving yourself a lot of time and research for listing items yourself on eBay by trading in your entire lot to a dealer for other coins that you like or would want to collect. You might even visit a couple of dealers to get their quotes for comparison before committing to a trade or sale. You could consider making this offer to trade everything based on a collective value of the collection for one or more high value coins from the dealer for your collection or as an investment. From this you would have a smaller amount of coins, of possible significant value and something you could still turn around and sell at any point through an eBay style auction or better yet through the better coin auction sites. Sometimes a trade offers more value than a cash sale and you have dealt with the entire lot in one action.
Never thought of the trade up for fewer coins option. I like that idea, thank you for the suggestions. Like i said, I do not know if it will come to this, but I want to keep my options open and know what would be the best path if I have to go this route. Life deals us lemons frequently these days....i hope I come out with my own orchard
I missed y'all coin talkers over the past several months I was gone....probably close to 12 actually... Anyhow it is great to see the old faces and to see a lot of new ones.... You are all still the classiest bunch on the net!
Not knowing what your "collection" is specifically: 1) check them our for any recent discovery of varieties. 2) Every coin club has a designated night for auction. If your not a member, join and present your items to a group of collectors ( most of which will be dealers ). That format seems to bring out the "fairness" in everyone as opposed to going into your local dealer shop. NO Fees, No Premiums, No shipping costs, and you get to meet a great bunch of folks too. Hell, you may even swap or buy something there. 3) If that does not bring your desired result, offer them here in the open forum.
I read somewhere here, think it was an off-shoot of the "Why I Collect Roosevelts" thread, but it led me to eBid. That would be another option and no fees for selling as on eBay.
The key is whether you have the keys! If the sets are complete, Heritage would probably take 'em on auction consignment (and stick you with a seller's fee, so you get only 75% of the sale price). Ebay may be a better option, and I would not overlook the local auctioneer if the keys are missing. They sometimes get big buck$ for junk.
