What’s the best deal you ever got on a coin?

Those coins where you don’t ever think you’ll see another one at that price.

Excluding bullion value or any silver/gold coin that was bought years ago would be a great deal. xD

Im just curious to see what you guys have picked up at great prices.

This group lot of ancient coins!
If I averaged the prices, each coin would be worth around 12 USD, while the sestertius and the Alexander drachm alone would be worth 100 dollars each, and add in 20 buck each for those billon Alexandrian tetradrachms. lot.png
    For single coins,
    This Alexandrian tetradrachm for $60
    price 879.jpg
This Achaemind siglos for $12 from vcoins

And last but not least, this Nero for just $30!

You can clearly see I'm a bottom feeder, but I like the adventure in scoring these beauties!

    That’s incredible!

To be honest I actually love that they have a well circulated look.

It means they were used frequently back when they circulated and many many hands touched them.

I can totally imagine someone flipping the coin at a wine merchant to buy some wine.

If I recall correctly the average Roman soldier made about 1 denarius a day. Officers & Centurions made more obviously.

I think it would be incredible to see a coin from the battlefield of the Battle of Teutoberg Forest. That battle is legendary.

This may not be what you had in mind, but (as posted recently in CRH Finds) these three, a clad proof and two NIFCs, cost me a buck-fifty total - three keepers of nine halves the teller had in her cash drawer. Low cost in $ and in time!

Found this in 2006, in a bulk Wheat cent lot. It had a piece of dirt covering the mintmark at the time.

As such, it cost me less than a nickel. Later sold it for somewhere around $700, after I had it slabbed.

    Cha-ching! :greedy:

Picked these up just a few weeks ago, paid spot silver for them. The Griffin is the key key of the series.

JM Bullion was recently bought out by A-Mark, I wonder if that will have an effect on their quality and service.

Oh yeah I saw that. I actually bought 100 shares of A-Mark. It’s P/E ratio is 3.63. That’s insane! A-Mark is only valued at $219 million as an entire company including JM Bullion.

This is the Snow-7. The cent die was clashed with the die from the $20 gold piece. Pretty rare FE. It's worth well north of $1000. I gave less than the price of a normal FE. It's listed in the CPG.

I paid $1200 for this pair of knife coins. In the current market, they should be able to sell for around $15000-17000

I bought a lot of 80 plus mostly Standing Liberty raw quarters from a consignment shop on eBay for $4.70 each last year. The lot included a damaged FR02 1916 SLQ - "The King of SLQs" which is the pride of my set, though I have some MS63s now for more common dates that are a lot prettier. That's definitely the best deal I ever got when it comes to coins. IMG_3973e.JPG

The best deal would be when I was a kid. I would park cars on a public street for $2.00. I lived 1 block away from Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, in the Waverly District. The Colts with Johnny United and the Orioles called it home.

No coins in particular but it was always nice to be paid in silver dollars, which were still in circulation.

1909 S VDB. It was with several other coins and the dealer I purchased it from told me "I have every reason to believe it is fake" I purchased it an O9 S and a 31S for $500. The 09 & 31 were PCGS slabbed and the 09 S VDB was in a flip. After a very thorough exam I said I would purchase it as well and he replied, "if it is fake you are buying it as is", 4 weeks later it came back MS 62BN @ approx $1300. I told Jasen and he just shook his head and said "I guess I better learn about 09's, I really ****ed up. Yep.
    Stay safe.
    Keep looking
