Henry Chanin was in the cotton waste business. Cotton waste comes from processing raw cotton. An example of cotton waste (the only example I actually understand) is "comber waste" or short fibers culled from cotton combing. Someone like Henry would try to sell that waste to be used in products where short fibers may be more viable, such as, maybe, ear swabs, cotton balls or wadding for pill bottles. Source: Interwebbie

It's a bit skanky looking but it's also a R5--one or two known.
