Hello... I need a little advice from the group about a purchase I made on Ebay for some wheat cents and have yet to receive them. On June the 7th. I purchase a big bag of wheat cents from a 99.6% Ebay seller. It was suppose to be shipped USPS and I guessed it would take about 2 weeks. Well it did not show up. On the 29th of June, I sent an email to this seller questioning the status of my order. A couple of days later I received an return email to the effect how sorry she was and a lot of bag coins she had sent were lost in the mail and the Postal Service was investigating. I think the email said something like 12,000 cents were lost somehow. Anyhow the big delay was she was expecting a big replacement from her distributor and all the orders should be re shipped the weekend of the 4th. She added she would send me a tracking order shortly.

On July 3rd I received a tracking number and they would be via pay pal shipping thing. The tracking number does not show any activity other than her notification these coins would be shipped. Yesterday I sent another little email stating that if i did not receive these coins by the end of the week I would be forced to resolve this transaction through Pay pal since my time to file a dispute is running out.

Should note here, I had the option of obtaining insurance for these coins but chose not to as it is my understanding this is the seller responsibility. Anyhow the seller said she had insured them.

I do not want to get to long fingered here but I would like some opinions from some who may have dealt with this. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt but that can be dangerous. Should I give them a few more days or proceed with a dispute. I did use Pay Pal and, on the advice of this forum payed with my Credit Card. Thanks and I hope I made some sense.:)

I would file the claim. It can always be reversed if the coins are recieved.

Also, when you look up the tracking number does it show that it was tendered to USPS or that they recieved electronic notification? If it only shows as electronic notification that would indicate that the package was never actually given to USPS (though, some Post Office's dont like scanning in tracking numbers unless they are the green DEL CON lables).

File a dispute with PayPal now. If a shippment does not come within a few weeks and you do not hear from the seller then you sould away file one, this protect you if the order is really lost. Keep emailing her and let her know what you are doing.

I forgot what the time limit is with Paypal but I would file the claim 2 days before the limit. Send a polite email telling the seller what you have done and add that you will be sure they get paid if the coins show up. It would be funny if both bags show up:)

Well this is what my last Email stated.

Your package will be shipped by Pay Pal Shipping with U.S. Postal Service

XXXXX used Pay Pal Shipping with U.S. Postal Service to create a shipping label for your package.

This is what my last notification read. Not sure what that means other than the possibility if it comes to a dispute , then Pay pal would have a record. The lady at the post office who collects wheat cents looked it up and told me she did not see where the post office ever received this. Of course I have had bad luck trying to use Postal tracking.

You have 45 days from the date of purchase to open a dispute or what ever you call it.
My original purchase date was was 6/7/09 so I feel I can give them this week and still be a Mr. nice guy but not to nice.

I did notify the seller exactly what I was going to do. I can not help but learn something from this and give me something to do in my spare time.

Still have my CC company which I use to pay for this deal via Pay Pal.

File the claim with paypal; you've waited long enough.

It has been over 30 days and I would have already filled a claim with paypal.

I think the seller did not have the coins in hand yet before she sold them on eBay.

I sold a few things on eBay a few weeks ago and printed and paid for the labels via Paypal. The buyers have had there items for almost week now, and 2 out of the 3 labels have a status of just being printed as of today.

I think, you need to double check tho, you have 45 days to file a Paypal dispute. You are getting close to that limit so I would file very soon. Inform the seller, they should understand you have no choice.

USPS tracking is one big joke.

I have received packages, looked them up a week later, and found a status of "electronic notification, but not yet received by the post office"!

Waste no time in filing a dispute with paypal. At least you will get your money refunded. Also, report her to ebay. If she did not have the coins, she should have listed it as a pre-sale. The item must be in your possesion within 30 days at the end of the auction. I don't know what you paid for them (it really doesn't matter) but you can pay for a label and print it out from pay pal and never use it, if you are trying to cheat someone out of their money. An honest seller would have contacted you right away. She is hoping the time will run out to dispute it then she is home free.

Okay firstly, THe USPS has been screwing up tremendously, so I would not totally suspect the seller of any wrong doing. Secondly, a shipment such as this through the USPS will take anywhere from 5-10 days. Now the tracking number that was provided you, will only show if movement is made on the shipment in the destination city, and it has been logged it into the computer system. I would contact your local main postal facility, ask for a supervisor and have them check on the shipment on your end. In the interim, I would you suggest you notify the seller that you intend to file a claim with Pay Pal ( which you are insured by ) that you have not received that purchase; and that the seller should also file a claim with the USPS. Pay Pal will require a copy of the sellers USPS acknowledgement of the claim. If the shipment cannot be confirmed as properly delivered, you will receive a full refund .

Please do let us know , how all this plays out. Thanks, Tom

P.S. I would also get in writing from the seller, any promise to send you a duplicate shipment.

I agree with the majority. File the claim now. Being nice will not get what you paid for any faster. Being assertive will resolve the situation.

she is not being truthful. If she were, you would have gotten a straightforward answer, from the start. I would file a claim pronto.

I think that is an unfair assumption on your part. And there is no downside in filing a claim with Paypal, while simultaneously being courteous to the seller and giving her the benefit of the doubt.

I read the post, and what's obvious to you is merely a possibility to me. I prefer to be open minded when I don't have all of the facts.

File the claim Paypal will put the amount you paid on hold in the sellers account this will make them move a little faster in getting this resolved.

Thats the correct way to proceed Mark, and absolutely there is no excuse for acting unprofessionally with the seller. Many, many things can and will happen going from point A to point B . Case in point, it took exactly 15 days for a piece of my mail from Albany,NY going a mere 20 miles just south of albany. It just arrived this day.

    Quick:
    File the claim.

    If you wait, you lose.

You can always void out the claim, but if you don't file, you lose all.
