Damaged 2005 Coin and Metal Set

I received an email from the mint concerning the "one" 2005 Coin and Metal Set that I ordered. The email reads that the mint has a 'packaging problem' with these sets, and does not expect to ship until Sept 15th. I now wonder if the packaging was damaged in a prior shipment, and the Sept sets are returns from prior orders. I would advise all collectors to carefully examine the packaging on items ordered from the mint. I also received a 2005 Silver Proof Set with a damaged outer box, and I was over 3 months getting my set replaced. Jim

Me also regarding the damaged 2005 Prood sets.

I decided just to keep the cracked plastic and live with it.

    :) :)

The up to date news from Numismatic News...WOW!!

The U.S. Mint sold more than 200,000 proof and uncirculated Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollars in the first few days of issue.

The proof Marine Corps dollar toted 196,000 ordered and the uncirculated version 59,000 as of July 27.

The coins went on sale July 20.

Two sets featuring the Marine silver dollar are also selling quickly. A total of 24,000 of the 2005 U.S. Mint American Legacy Collection were sold, maximum production capped at 100,000 sets, along with 35,000 Marine Corps Coin & Stamp Sets, limit 50,000 sets. These sets are scheduled to be shipped on Aug. 1 and Aug. 29, respectively.

Maximum mintage for the coin is 600,000.

Because so many orders were placed so quickly, the Mint said customers might experience delays in the shipment of their Marine commemoratives.

Normally, commemorative coins are sold over several months, which allows the Mint time to produce coins on an extended timeline in consideration of sales. With the Marine commemorative, the Mint will individually notify customers when their orders are expected to ship, based on its first-in, first-out fulfillment policy.

    If I'm following this, it's 196,000 + 59,000 + 24,000 + 35,000 = 314,000 coins out of a total of 600,000, meaning just over half have already been sold, in just ten days ?

Hmmm, maybe I should get a few more in Uncirculated. On the other hand, if over 200,000 were sold in the first few days, and about another 100,000 since then, it appears to be slowing down. Still looks like a quick sellout, though.

Seems the mint still has Legacy sets for sale. I bought two, hoping to sell both on eBay for a tidy profit. Looks like I'll be getting burned on that idea.
