Trying to remove ink from this note. Rubbing alcohol, nailpolish remover and denatured alcohol had no effect. What did do something is efferdent denture cleaner. For the 1st treatment I used 1 tab in 5 cups of 140 degree water for 15 mins. For the second treatment I used 2 tabs in 6 cups of 140 degree water for 20 mins. Looks more faded in the last pic, partially due to lighting althought it may have actually lightened a little. Also, the note is not as limp as it was before I started. Pic 1 is what I started with (front and back) Pic 2 (face) is after first treatment Pic 3(face is after second treatment
Interesting experiment. it seems that the higher ratio worked better. I would not bet that it would be a rule that higher always equalled better, the paper also looks better besides the inkstains being diminished. Does it feel any different?
make sure you notate the note has been cleaned.... i would suggest a thick tip black sharpie marker near the top border, near the bottom border, and across both side margains
I think I hacked the cadaver. Put in a pan and covered with medical grade peroxide at 70 degrees for 7.5 mins on each side. The red is starting to turn orange . I'll post pics in the morning, after it dries.
Ok, I was wrong. Looking at pic #3 (first A and 4 of upper rh serial #)it was the efferdent that caused the bleeding. THe lightened areas are where the bubbles hit the note. Next time I will make sure to circulate the solution or move the note constantly. Later tonight I will do an experiment with an effervescent substance containing asprin and calcium and post pics. Here is the pic after peroxide. I see no real results other than the note is more limp now.
OK, 6cups 140 degree water with 2 heartburn effevescent tabs (cointaining asprin, calcium carbonate and citric acid). I accidently forgot about it, so the time is approx 25 mins. Pic later tonight when it dries out. I suspect the paper will be softer(more limp), due to the asprin. Appears there is no change at this time.
no change?? i bet the note will never have its teeth fall out and they are very white, never have another head ache, and never get another infection. thats no change?
^LOL. Its worse than I thought. Very limp now AND now wavy as well. It has a smell that kinda burns and makes me cough as well. The previous smell was that of money(the past experiments had no effect on smell). It also has a different surface texture. It feels like new money. Interesting.
Tried toothpaste (non whitening) on a different note. Let it dry and rinsed off. Still looks the same.
You know, if you keep on doing this, eventually you'll wind up like this Blender Guy: http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/content/science-video/money-blender
I love this thread! :smile :smile Noost...try some IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) right out of the bottle from the drugstore...I have removed ink with it before, however, the ink was fresh! RickieB
Is that the same as rubbing alcohol? I tried that the first day i think and it didn't take it out at all. Thanks for the idea though. Any more ideas??
