Hey there, just wanted to mention a TV show that some of you might be interested in. Pawn Stars is a new show on the History Channel that is definitely worth checking out. It takes place at the only family-run pawn shop in Vegas. The family uses their skills to carefully assess the value of items, including coins, that their customers bring in. Objects range from very obscure to truly historic. It premiers this Sunday (July 19) at 10pm/9c You should check out these links to get a better idea of what the show is about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eBr8Th__NA http://www.history.com/content/pawn-stars
that looks more interesting than the p*rn stars i look at occasionaly (it must be my age). mike. ps. i wonder if they will ever show it in australia
Looks interesting. In these hard economic times, more and more people are getting rid of their old junk. But what's ones mans junk is another mans treasure. Bruce
Hmmmm. Not sure if I like the show or not. I watch it a few more times and decide. When the owner Rick laughs it sounds like 60 grit sandpaper on concrete. That part is distracting.
I watched one of the episodes and they tested grandpa's eyesight by having him try to find the Carson City mintmark on a jar full of Morgan Dollars (he had previously priced a CC-mintmark at $50 instead of $500). He failed the test, but finally picked the Carson City after he got his new glasses. This looks like a fun show!!
I saw that episode and they didn't test him on the jar of dollars until after he got his glasses. What I thought was interesting was when they asked him if he understood about CC dollars and he said "Yes, the dollars were made at the Carson City Mint in CarSon City Nevada, They also made them at San Francisco, New Orleans they even made some at Charlotte, North Carolina." Charlotte, North Carolina??
Yeah, I caught that too. He went on to say (paraphrasing), "If you want to know anything about the Mints just ask me." I'm sure if you pointed out to him that the Charlotte Mint (and the Dahlonega Mint) only minted gold coins, not Morgan Dollars, he would say that he was rattling of the list of Mints that minted any coins, not just Morgans. It's interesting to note that he left out the biggest one of all - Philadelphia.
