What are the best tools to find most errors. I tried a magnifying glass but still have troubles. I see people talking about microscopes, but is it a necessity? What are some other good tools to find them?

  3. A 10X-20X jewelers loupe should work.

How much are they? Where is a good place to buy?

Do you have a BooksAMillion store around you? Our BAM store has a huge coin section and they sell a 16x loupe for no more than $15. I can't remember the exact price, but it is between $10-15. That will surely get you on your way.

That and good lighting should be sufficient.

A 16X or 32X Microscopes are good to use when you are looking at real fine or worn detail or errors, but a 10X loupe or magnifying glass will pick up good detail with proper lighting.

If you decide to buy a 10X loupe/magnifier, I think this one is the best deal around as far as quality and pricing. If you don't mind the Russian military heritage, it has a 21mm -3 element lens. I think even Amazon sells it.
