Nothing to post just a question. Everyone reach in there pocket and pull out a 1986 D LMC. On the reverse look at "STATES oF" that the ES and o are considerablly worn down. I have noticed this on probablly 80-90% of the ones that i've looked at. Was this caused by the die being worn down? And if so would early stage minted coins not have this damage? Just a curiousity question.
Yes the mid 80's cents had a lot of mid to late stage anvil die ware and the quality control was not all that great too.
Being an error coin collector I've made some odd mistakes. I remember back in the 80's when I too started to notice so many of those Lincoln Cents with messed up reverses. I started to collect those. When I found I now had several hundred of them and mostly all the same faded, worn looking, missing lettering on the top of the reverse, I said to myself, OOOPPPS. Time to forget this one. If I can pick up almost any 1980's to 90's Lincoln Cent and the reverses look like that, time to move on. In the early 90's so many had what appeared to be doubling on that same area. The part of the lettering was so messed up the Zinc under started to come through. Just to common.
