I have been having our new old house redone that my wife inherited . in a wall I found 2 bank wrapped my mother in law had the pantry expanded in 1985 and that were her cent roll collection was stored.somehow the 2 got put in a sheet rock wall. now all I need is away to remove the spot without making them upgradeable or marked with Cleaned by a TPG anyone know a sure fire way to clean a coin like this up???
That's a shame. It really is gemmy and these don't come nice often. I fear they are ruined. Zinc is very fragile.
Odds are those spots are there for good, or if you can get them off it will be at the expense of the color of the surfaces. (Can you say pink?)
15 coins out 1st roll were like that this one being the worst of them.but I am sure the other roll is about the same.
.......i'm not sure on the cleaning but i'd certainly check the weight on each and every one and of course look close for a ddr.
Classic, more than likely they came from the mint that way and that's not an artifact of storage. The spots? They will prove to be unremovable without damaging the coin. This once again brings up my point about those that dis Memorial cents. Finding a true, clean gem is next to impossible for almost all the years.
Just as an example of true rarity, people laugh at me when I discover a coin like this one. Funny, I have yet to see anyone post a coin that they own that matches the beauty of some of mine like this one. The early zincs are VERY tough coins to find in nice condition.
Thanks, those were from my old Canon SD700IS....which has since died (stuck lens from dropping too many times). I just bought it's replacement, a Canon SD880IS. The new camera is better in many respects, but I still like the 700 better for macro pics. I think I might just get it repaired, looks to be around $90 to fix.
