I hope this isn't false alarm, but assuming they really did not get graded like that, what are your thoughts?

    ugh...
I mean, some of them looked more AT than others, but ALL of them?

And not to mention I've seen things that look far more AT/QT that have been graded.

There seems to be a lot more of this happening by NCG and also the other main TPG companies. Perhaps tightening is intentional in order to avoid having to reimburse coins currently graded as NT at the price premium that later might be determined scientifically to be AT. The threads on CU forum about some AT coins being more subject to changing than NT during the submission/slabbing process got me to considering the process. I recall a couple here where there were claims that the toning was changed in the weeks it was being graded.

The below is completely hypothetical, and reflect my wandering brain.:goofer:

If it is possible that AT even using the same chemical processes, produces less stable ( more energetic bonding) toning products, such differences might be measurable using non-destructive methods. If I was a TPG, I would be investigating these processes strongly in hopes of accuracy. If I knew such testing was over the horizon, it would be financially better to reject even slightly questionable toning until such a procedure was in place.

True... but then again, if they were being so strict, people may stop sending their coins in, and if they did that, then they wouldn't get as much money...

I've never submitted any thing to a TPG so if this is a stupid question I'm sorry. Did you submit them in the original mint holder? Can you submit a coin in a mint package or do you have to place it in a flip? Just wondering if it were in the mink package would the graders know that when they determine if it is AT or NT? Now I know a good doctor can doctor the mint package to make it look untapered with or probably tone the coins within. Just trying to understand why the body bag, they look very legit to me. i guess that is the problem with grading it is subjective.

Tater, I can't speak for PCGS, but NGC prefers the coin to be shipped in a non-PVC flip. They will accept modern coinage in the mints plastic capsules and will not return them. If you send your coin in anything that requires them to remove a staple, they charge a $1 per coin and without having to get up and check in the other room, I think this also applies to coins sealed with tape as well. When I called NGC, I just got clarification on the round plastic capsules and not other mint packaging, so although I am pretty sure they would accept them in the OGP, I am not sure if there would be a fee to unpack them or not.

How about air tights, do they send them back? I've got three peace dollars I want to send in. I guess I need to call them.

I don't think sending them in airtites would be a problem, because they are somewhat similar to the mints plastic capsules, but NGC would most likely keep them. In fact, if I remember correctly, they state that whatever packaging you do send your coins in will be kept by them. So if you don't want to lose your airtites, I would send them in flips.

I send all my stuff in Airtites to PCGS. To NGC I haven't sent coins lately or by that method. I am sad to hear MAG about your coins. I think they will grade with resubmission. Have a high end dealer submit. Ask Charmy or Jack or Mark Feld. I believe in this bias. It exists. I only submit through my dealer. In fact, I had a PCGS membership and canceled it and decided to only submit through my dealer. I may send some to Jack or Charmy on some coins I am not sure about if they are willing.

    Perhaps I will...

But I feel like I just threw $50+ out the window!

Sorry to hear that! I don't send anything with color to NGC anymore, I simply give up. I'd use DGS for these and see what they say.

I only use my dealer too. It's a LOT cheaper and "anonymous".

Well I was hoping 1 of them would get a star... but if they won't even grade it... x_x
