The easiest thing I could say is to check out coppercoins for a HUGE selection of errors. There is too many to list. Good luck:smile

I'm going to recommend you look into the following book.

A Guide Book of Lincoln Cents (The Official Red Book) by Q. David Bowers

For less than $20 you can get a whole lot of good factual information. You will find this reference handy to have around as you work with Lincoln cents. :)

The big key errors that come to mind to me are:

    1917 DDO
    1922 No D
    1936 DDO
    1944-D D over S
    1946-S S over D
    1955 DDO

There are more, but these seem to be the more popular or better known errors/varieties.

Before you start buying coins, you really should invest in some good reference books.

I agree that one of the more important books for any coin information is the Red Book by Whitman Publishing. And if you look around you may find an older edition for a really cheap price.
As noted also try www.coppercoins.com for error inforrmation. The person that has that web site has two books out on just Lincoln Cents. Great book for error information.

The book you refer to I believe is called "Striking it Rich with pocket change". Good info book but as you say, it only starts at 1959. "Official price guide to Mint errors" by Alan Herbert and "Over mintmarks and Hot Repunched mintmarks" by Flynn Wexler might be some possilities for you, as well as "Cherry Pickers" that was already mentioned, as well as of course, "Red Book". Happy hunting!

Actually, coppercoins is about varieties, not so much "errors".

I sort of think we all overwhelmed the newer collector with information. I do think the redbook guide by Bowers would be a great place to start.
