Thank god for Cointalk, as i said in my intro. I am fairly new to collecting. I was a manufacturing manager for the last thirty years and ran a few good size factories, so i was always busy. 2 years ago i got sick and am now permanately disabled and home 24,7,365 with my lovely wife of 31 years. She like everyone else said i needed a hobbie and now i have found one. I live in a very small town that has a post office and one tavern. Before finding cointalk I drove everyone crazy talking about nothing but coins. Now i find myself spending hours reading what everyone here has to say and soaking up a lot of knowledge. I read a couple of posts from people who got ripped off over thier years of collecting and it reminded me of two of my own experiences. The first was as a young boy I would go to the county fair in the summer and look at the coin collectors tables for something I could afford. one day a very shiny penny caught my eye and i spent my $5.00 of hard earned lawn mowing money and became the proud owner of a 1954 steel penny!!! Yeah right!!! My second story was just a few weeks ago when my late night cruising of ebay afforded me to be the lucky owner of a 3 pc. bi-centennial proof set box and COA for only $9.00!!!! This was my fault though for bidding without reading the miniscual font that sort of clearly told me there was no coins included!!! Thanks again for this great website where i can expand my knowledge and share my love of coins.:thumb:
Welcome to the sight. I hope that all endevours you pursue work out in your benefit in the future. There is a wealth of information on this sight and don't get discouraged at the few comments that you may read. For the most part of my experience here there is a wealth of info. and very helpful people.
biggiej I came very close to buying a similar empty box late one evening but something made me stop and actualy read the full discription just before I placed my bid
Welcome to cointalk, and I am glad you like the site. I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future, and any further questions about coin collecting, just ask All the best to you,
Welcome to the site! Enjoy! That 3 PC set sounds like the seller aboncom. My father fell for the same thing on one of his auctions - lots of big bold print then a little piece at the end that says - no coins included. So if not him stay away from his auctions anyway.
"Most of what I know about coins I learned from Cointalk" That sounds like a pretty good slogan for a CT t-shirt... Cafe Press anyone? Raise some funds to offset the site costs. :high5: Also to the newcomer, welcome to CT! Your eBay story was very sad to hear about the bi-cent set. I hope that karma will get those eBay scum that do these dishonest things. Maybe we all need eBay beer-goggles, especially when clicking "buy it now" or "bid" late at night. LOL!
This place is SO much better than other places were I could waste my time. & every time I conceive a stooopid question I get confounded by many knowledgeable answers. Now you have to get a camera and show us your interests. So Welcome to the frey and show us your stuff!
This is a great website with many people of quite a mixture of experience. We don't always agree with each other, but we generally disagree in a mature fashion. We'll of course be waiting to hear about your interests and where they've taken you so far.
You like old steelies? Old error steelies? Welcome anyway. Got a scanner for your goods? Fire it up or just read/write, but fill us in.:hail:
WELCOME TO THE FORUM. Not only do you learn about coins but you can practice different sizes of letters and thier colors too. Meanwhile back to those things called coins. So what types do you collect? Where do you prefer to purchase coins, shows, stores, the internet? I aleady know everything about coins so don't really learn much anymore. Naturally just kidding. But then I also get a chance to use those silly faces in my answers. One thing I try to do is print out subjects that directly concern me and put them in a 3 ringed binder making a coin book of my own. It's fun and a great book of just what I want to know.
Welcome, glad you enjoy it here so much. I hope other guests read this thread and join in with us. Happy to have you.
Hi BiggieJ, Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but glad things are working out. New people today don't know what the hobby would be like without the internet and ebay, and other modern wizzary. If you still have that 1954 steelie, I would like to see a photo, especially if it is attracted to a magnet. The site has a lot of old timers and a lot of young timers. Jim

Just checking out some stuff here....and a COA....to be a certified empty BOX? ok. Just figured out how to use small print at the bottom of the page. Anyway. :thumb:m
you all are so knowledgable!! First of all to the gentleman that guessed aboncom you are correct!! secondly I am collecting proof sets but could use a little advice. I get all my sets in OGP but since I love to look at my coins. I take the packages and store them. I am trying to find a good way to be able to display my proof sets so that people can see both sides. I have recently measured some of my proof sets and just ordered some 3 pocket large currency note holders to go in a 3 ring binder. From my measurements i think my sets should fit well, and I am going to try gluing the flaps shut. That way they will not fall out and if i remove one the worst I do is ruin 1 page. Does anyone have any thoughts on this I would love to hear them!!
This site is cool, evey topic makes sense at all. So many things you will learned and hear from great people. _____ Types of Coins
