Anyone going to buy a Silver Eagle 1 oz. Coin ? I would but $73 ? Sounds kind of steep, no ? How does this effect the values of other years ?
The US Mint announced a few days ago that if you had subscription you would not be able to add to the quantity since there was projected to be a shortage. Was this just a marketing scam?
I don't think it would affect other years since it is typically representative of the price of silver. And, the new coins from the mint are hot only until the next one comes out. Not a wise investment, only a collectable with an ounce of silver included.
73$ for a proof ASE seems steep. Between 1999 and 2010, I would buy 2 per year as a collector not for investment. I guess, I just got bored. I think the prices on ebay are generally higher than my LCS.
Welcome to CT I got bored myself with the US Mint putting out so many coins and options. It was getting to be like ballast. I quit buying commemoratives about 3 years ago.
Just placed an order for two, will keep one and sell the other when the Mint sells out and it inevitably jumps in price. EDIT: looks like as soon as I posted this originally, they sold out. I got in just in time! Selling out in 10 minutes is wild.
I tried to get one. All 327,000bsold out in 10 minutes. Crazy. I guess all it takes is a few hundred Dealers getting 10 of their friends to order 99. Why would the mint allow one household that many? Wouldn't 5 or 10 be enough. How much will eBay sellers inflate these to once again leave collectors with limited funds not able to fill that slot?
Well, we had our chance. I see raw presale going around $125 on the bay right now. With the sell out, we'll see...
I found the number to be odd as well. I haven't paid much attention to the dealings of the Mint in recent years, but I don't recall ever seeing a number so high be the household order limit! Usually the order limit for most products is none, correct? I think double the original price clears the market easily. In addition to people just getting stupid when things sell out in general, I think the fact that this is the last proof coin that will bear the original design adds to the hype more than it would on any other basic year. I imagine at it's peak we're talking $200.
I passed, I just checked, and as everyone knows, sold out, but can't imagine it holding value much. I'll buy in a couple years for half the price. <fingers crossed>
I believe mine is an annual auto-ship on both the ASE coins. The proof and burnished. here is my confirmation from the MINT Thank you for participating in the United States Mint Enrollments program. Your enrollment order is being prepared for shipment and your account will be charged. This is a confirmation and summary of your order.
