has anyone ever seen a 1972 double, with just the date doubled? the books that i look at show everything is doubled. i can only see that the date is an error. I am very new to this and I need to ask alot of questions to get all the help i can get. thank you very much hope im not a pain
Actually there are several that only the date is doubled. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/dateguide.php?date=1972
If you really want to find a lot of dd's or rpms for pennies, then buy "THE CHERRYPICKERS GUIDE Fifth addition vol.1" You will be surprised in the depth of knowledge you will obtain from that book. Or, check out coppercoins.com for other varieties or errors on Lincolns.
Welcome Yorkiedad5 to the forum! The chances are that if the date of a 1972 cent is easily recognized as "doubled", but none of the lettering, it is machine doubling of the date. The true doubled die varieties of the 1972P that have the doubling only in the date are very difficult to see and identify. Photos are necessary for us to validate, and if you search there are many threads on machine doubling that might help you have a better idea. Again Welcome! Jim
i would like to say thank you all for the help you are giving me. i really apprieciate it. The 1972 that i have is really not that easy to see. But it is doubled. I really had to look at it. Thats why i went to a dealer to let him take a look. It sure is fun finding things like this. thank you again bill
I found a DDO-01 in circulation last year. It was very obvious. I wasn't even looking for errors, just sorting out coppers. It even had some luster left. I used to get bags of pennies from the banks with coin counting machines.
