Notice the ear as well as the bowtie and of course, the face. I was offered $100 for this today from a dealer, should I do it? What error is it? THanks

Looks to be a pretty nice example of a 1984 Doubled Die Obverse.

If you're set on selling it, I'd probably get it certified first. May cost you $25 or so to do that, but depending on the grade you'll probably get that back.

Edited to add that now that I look at it closer, I'm not sure that is the big money DDO for the year, maybe it's just strike doubling or a minor DDO???

    Here's the '84 DDO:

Yeah, I checked that and thought the same. Folks at the coinclub were torn as to DDO or MDD, but the dealer said it was DDO. Maybe a discovery piece?

I vote with the MMD group. I believe it is not a DDO. I think I have one similar that I was pondering a while before deciding the same thing, Too flattened.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

If someone offers you $100 for that, take it and laugh all the way to the bank. There is absolutely no doubt at all that this is strike doubling. If you disagree, I suggest you review treashunt's recent excellent thread on the topic.

The OP's coin bears absolutely zero resemblance to the '84 DDO.

Nice one, from the nose all the way down to the neck is doubled. My noob vote is for MDD since it's flat. Personally, I'd take $100 from the dealer :)

I agree on the MD the earlobe is not low enough and it is to flat. If the dealer thinks it is a DDO then I would avoid going to his shop. He should know the differance between a DD and MD.

It's just machine doubling. Worth perhaps a buck.
