Hi Two questions 1. I have a British New Penny coin shown in the picture. Nothing special about it except for the circular edge of the coin is a lot thicker than normal coins. Its the only such example of a 1p coin I have seen and wondering if its a special case or worth anything more than 1p. 2. I have 1898 One Penny British coin and wondering what it is worth.
I don't know what to tell you about the 1971 but if you can, take a pic of the 1898. It all depends on the grade for what it is worth. Oh, and welcome to Coin Talk!
Hi Thanks for reply - great to find a forum like this. Here is an image of the 1898 coin - a bit darker than in real life but I am only using a sony mobile 3.2 mega pixel camera to take these.
I would suggest posting that 1971 penny picture on the predecimal.com forum with the same question. I have handled a lot of 1971 pennies and have never seen one with a thickened rim like yours, so it may be worth a premium. It definitely looks like an error of some sort.
