My wife and I decided to go camping before going to my wifes grandfathers to divy up some old items between family. About an hour after we got to the campgrounds, our dog got sprayed by a skunk. So after a long time- and finally getting the dog smelling better, we went to bed only to find out that we left the blankets at the house. We froze that night. So we got over to her grandfathers and I sat back and watched the items beig divied up. We got some nice glassware but, I am excited about the coins we got.

Included were 2 close to uncirculated Canadian Cents (1909 and 1888), another 1914 Canadian Cent, a few German coins and other European coins. The US coins were not that spectactular (steel cent, 1974 cent, and a 1980 Kennedy half).

My favorite coin however is a Free Masons Penny from Petersburg VA, that has my daughters great great grandfathers name on it.
I plan on saving all the coins for my daughter to have when she grows up.

I will post pictures later because I am exhausted.

Sorry to hear about your wife's grandfather, but glad to hear that you will be able to preserve some of his coins. I know exactly where Petersburg, VA is. It is on the border between VA and WV. It is a small town. Not much there. Very rusting and great camping areas around that area and the New River. I belive there is a lot of history there too.

Actually, Vingar, Dawn dish soap and Baking soda does quite well.
Tomato juice just covers up the smell and when the juice scent wears off you still have a stinky dog that is also red.

Congrats, family heirlooms are the best. Forgot blankets? Good excuse to................ :)

I would have rubbed the dog with mud or ketchup, and put his azz outside for the weekend lol.

hummmmmmmmmmmm. better red than dead? J/K LOL Thanks for the tip I always heard tomato juice.....not many pole cats here in my area but about 20 miles south there is plenty ! But and this is so funny because of where we live which is about 10 miles south of Baltimore... we have beavers... yep the DNR have come out twice to trap, remove ,relocate! However they love our neighborhood and there are plenty of street trees to make nice lodges with....it's almost like a cartoon watching the trees disapear....there at sun down gone in the morning! busy Beavers huh?

Well to me the coins aren't that interesting but the Masonic penny is a neat item, especially since it can be traced to a specific person, and even better a relative.

I've been encouraging folks with Mason coins and tokens to post them on this thread, there are some neat examples turning up. If you or anyone else have any, even if they are the more common counter-stamped type made using Lincoln cents, please post them. Cheers!

I do like that Mark Penny. I've seldom seen them with the members name actually engraved on them
