I heard that the British Mint produced a set of 13 all-gold proof coins for the Queen's Jubilee back in 2002. I've never seen a photo or heard if these were actually minted. I'd love to see the penny, etc in gold. Where can I find photos? Since this was a limited edition, what is the value now?
I haven't heard of it. It is highly probable though. The mint likes doing things like that and being the golden jubilee gold suggests itself rather well. I think i'm right in thinking silver ones exist. But like you i quite like the idea of seeing a penny and perhaps a 10p struck in gold.
It's not listed in Collector's Coins 2004 either, i know that because we didn't put it in. Dunno about Spink, i'll have to pay a visit to W H Smiths and check out the ones they've got for sale.
I checked Chard - they don't offer any such set. They do have 1 or two coins struck in gold but no set. And the largest set they have for 2002 is a 9 piece set.
Which Chard site did you check? (they've got a few) But the original poster is quite correct, see here (i had a feeling he wasn't imagining it). http://taxfreegold.co.uk/2002goldenjubileebritishgoldproofcollection.html (It's Chard's site)
I searched all over and couldn't find it Oh well, all that it matters is that it was found. That should pretty much answer the questions. Good job Sylvester
All i did was type the following into google.co.uk "2002 Jubilee gold coin set" And there it was, first listing.
I tried that too - slightly different wording though. Then I searched the Chard site directly - can't figure why I couldn't find it there Matters not though - you did
