My husband got these coins when he was working at a casino here in Colorado. I would love to know if anyone here knows anything about the values of them. I read the other post. First of all this is not from the Third Reich. The third Reich did not come into existance until 1933. This coin is from Germany when it was called the Weimar Republic (after WW1 to 1933). Also it is not a token it is infact a coin. The "J" means it was minted at Hamburg mint. The value depends on its condition, but it does seem you made a good investment.
I did not give a value because I am not very good at grading coins but according to the 2006 Standard Catalog of World Coins ( Krause for short) the values are; Fine-$40 Very Fine-$65.00 Extra Fine-$95.00 Uncirculated-$130.00 Brilliant Uncirculated-$150.00 Maybe someone else can help you with the grade of your coin?
I can tell you from the text that it comemorates the circumnavigation of the globe by the Graf Zeppelin (Aug 8 to Aug 29, 1929). Of course, it's neither a common circulation type of sufficient face value that it was likely to be contemporaneously counterfeited, nor does it have a sufficiently high numismatic value to make collector-oriented forgery very likely, but the two biggest reasons I would never make such a statement are that: I have no way of knowing how exactly the color I see on my monitor matches the color I would see if the coin were in hand Tarnished silver can be of just about any color.
