Help with LP roll storage

Whats anyone doing to store lp1 ect in wrappers from mint or bank? So far the sausage rolls from Mint P works well in a nickle plastic tube but paper with crimp is a tight fit ...any others ideas especially on the box of lp2s I opened from the mint plastic tubes the best?? as paper on them worth as much as the pennies for now antway ???

The rolls squeeze into a cent tube with no problem. I then seal it with tape.

 

Here is my nickels.
I put them into coin tubes and the top couldn't be tighted all the way so I only put it on half way and then I vacuum sealed them.

 

I just leave mine in the box they came in. Nothing fancy here.

CONGRATS Shatzy, this is what I'v been trying to get members to do too. This should keep all coins or paper preserved for a long, long time in a vacuum sealed moisture free environment. Great picture. I've even done this for my mint sets and airtites and state quarter sets.

 

If you vacuum seal your coins, how do you look at and enjoy your collection? It seems the preservation aspect trumps the sheer enjoyment factor of collecting in the first place.

I never plan to open the rolls. With all of my other stuff I vacuum seal (mint sets, proof sets, ASE proofs) you can still cut the vacuum seal and look at your coins and then re-vacuum seal them and store them away. I have my 1955-2004 Uncirculated mint sets sealed in vacuum bag for added protection.


How do you look at and enjoy your collection? How often do you really need to look at your proof sets and mint sets.

That is one minor drawback. Just seal it the first time with enough vacuum poly material to open it and show it off and then reseal it at your convenience. The little exposure it gets shouldn't matter at all. One side is fairly clear so if you put your favorite coin sides on the clear side, this may suit your needs. Otherwise do not use this method.
Is there such a thing as a inexpensive display case available such as used for the Declaration of Independence?

 

Nice! Just missing one thing. Add a nice BU cent in there to absorb any possible hydrogen sulfide. It will help keep the coins from toning.

 

I will do that next time I open them. I remember reading that from you before.

 

I'm not doubting you BADTHAD, could you explain how it could occurr in an ALMOST total vacuum. Or is that the answer, almost. Therefore chemicals in the wrapper break down and maybe some H2S forming.?? Thanks

 

Yes zeke- the sulfur will tone and the fresh copper will absorb the sulfur. This is actually the technology of Intercept Shield products- impregenated copper. Wermer White's book: Coin Chemistry suggests this method and I use as well.
Shatzy- what brand are you using for vaccum seal bads. I use Reynolds and Zip lock bags. Zip lock is better and seals better but the writing gets in the way of viewing and it won't fit over Dansco albums so I have to use Reynolds for those type of items. I also use tin dissicant inside for Dansco albums (seal it in there).

 

Boss I use the food saver bags that they sell at wal-mart. They are kinda on the spending side but well worth IMO. I buy them in bulk on eBay and save money!!

I LOVE my Food saver, but never really thought to use it on my coins. Makes perfect sense, though. I tend to look at my coins alot so it probably is not as practical for me.
