I don't know about Rickie...but Ol Dave thinks they're awful purrdy!!! I never get tired of seeing gold from your collection DG, Thanks!!
Doug.. Thank you very much..those are indeed some nice coins. I really like the obverse of the Roster and 1595 coin..what is that in the air-tite above the 1585? The Angel is very nice as well.
All, It was looking at these type coins from GDJMSP that got me started down the path of collecting world gold. Doug, evertime I see pieces of your collection it encourages me to keep looking for special pieces to add to my collection. My favorite is the rose noble !!!!
Which incidentally was based on the design of my former English gold Noble struck in 1422 (which i sold last week). GD's pictures are just better than mine though.
Interestingly enough Sylvester further research has shown that the English gold noble was copied from even earlier gold coinage of the Netherlands. So who copied from who first ? Nations and governments have always copied coinage designs from other nations & governments. They still do today.
I knew that, why? Well the one i had was a Flemish imitative issue, based more on the continental versions that on the English versions. But we're alright because everyone else copied our silver pennies so youi could say they owed us a good design
