I'm confused and need some direction or clarification. I have been putting my Proof and Uncirculated Sets into a Excel spreadsheet and trying to list approximate values according to the 2021 Redbook. Doing this in case something bad happens and my Wife or Kids need to have an idea of value. Anyway I've always known that the 1776-1976 Ike's had a Variety (Type) 1 and 2 with the 1's valued more. But here's my quandary...a Unc Set is valued at $9 but a MS-65 but a INDIVIDUAL Ike is valued at $160 (P) and $50 for a (D). What is the deal here? Why would the individual coin be worth way more than the set? Am I just reading this wrong? I have 2 Type 1 Proof and about 8 Type 1 Unc Sets. Any help would be appreciated....
I am sure the price for the Unc Set assumes the coins are NOT MS-65. Can't find what they are assumed to grade at but it is obviously less than MS-65. The individual coins are $8 and $5 for MS-63 for example.
Type 1 is more valuable, also P mint usually strikes coins in bad overall condition so that MS 65 might be one of the highest grades at auction. Check JBCOINSINC on youtube, he covers hundreds of coins explains their value much more.
Ikes have a great amount of variety but value is what one is willing to pay for something, or sell it. I think it takes more than just identifying a variety to drive up the price. Ugly coins often don't sell, regardless of the rarity. That is my opinion after buying and selling Eisenhower Dollars. They are a great deal of fun.
