Hey Sir @jamesicus if you are having issues posting just PM me. Or if it is easier just ask the question here - there is never any judgement as you know. All good people - we want to help you. You are such a valued member - please let us help!!!
No - you are fine... no issue...@jamesicus is an elder, very respected member at 90+ years old. We look out for him. But his knowledge is very respected around these parts. I call him "Sir".
Thank you @Clavdivs that is very kind of you. I have fixed it now. Hopefully I will not be cluttering up this thread anymore, sorry for the mess. I appreciate your concern, it is harder for me these days.
It would be nice if you could tell us a little bit about it. (New, antique, meaning of characters, etc.). Thank you.
Ask and you shall receive ... we are ALL here to help you. We all love when you post. I know your collection is reduced - but I have to say you kept the best!!
Oh I know you were not being a jerk @SensibleSal66. You were absolutely correct to call me out, for some of those posts were in violation of the guidelines and were undoubtedly interfering with the enjoyment of other members who are following the main substance of the thread. For that I sincerely apologize to everyone. I will try to not let that happen again.
Really cool, James! I manufactured sport knives and kitchen knives for years. Been to several knife manufacturing facilities all over Europe, The Americas, and Asia. I always enjoyed artisan work, and ancient knife/sword making techniques. Always fun to enjoy your posts. Thank you!
Lovely photos! I collect bayonets and have wanted to get a Japanese one to go along with my German, Eastern European, US, and French ones... They are just too high for my wallet... and I spend too much on coins. But I have been able to get a few more a year ago... And to keep it coin related, here's a new one I got... Been wanting a canopic jar for a couple years now.
How could you possibly assume that someone who has been a member since 2008, has over 2600 messages and 13 featured articles would NOT know this was a coin forum? I find it disappointing that a promising thread about medieval Japan seems to have been derailed by someone who doesn’t collect in the area and who had no intention of contributing. Don’t get me wrong, I hope you stick around and contribute and I’ll be happy to see your collection but your post WAS rude, even if unintentionally.
Not being rude Sir . Just making sure he posted to correct thread. Very common mistake by anyone . Don't judge me, you don't even know me or my Background . Peace out.
I'm sure @SensibleSal66 wasn't rude intentionally; he obviously didn't know who @jamesicus is. It's simply a reminder not to jump to conclusions about people without checking their posting history first!
I don’t think your thread is a violation of guidelines at all James. Some of the best threads on CoinTalk start out with an object or story about the context or culture coins were used in and an interesting discussion follows. I wish we had more threads about Japanese culture and coins so I could learn more about them. I recently got steamrolled on a Japanese coin at auction and I would have had no idea why if I hadn’t reached out to a friend on CT to ask advice. Also, I always enjoy your posts my friend and I think most everyone else does as well.
I make no judgements about you and as I said I hope you stick around and contribute, particularly if you pick up an interest in ancient or medieval coins. It is a fun lot of folks on this side. Indeed. As I said it was a disappointing end to the thread but as long as James and others reading this aren’t discouraged from posting about interesting and relevant side collections it is no harm, no foul.
No need to argue guys, even though thanks to that I noticed this thread! We are a popular forum and interesting threads can end up in page 2 purgatory far too soon. Beautiful blade pics @jamesicus ! To be honest I am not the biggest fan of suguha hamon, but that fabulous jihada makes me salivate (not on the blade of course ) I haven't taken decent pics of my blades yet, and I should do so at some point, but blade photography is even harder than coin one believe it or not. All I can say is that my most interesting wakizashi is a nagamaki-naoshi with hitatsura hamon. I apologise for using technical terms that probably only @jamesicus understands!
